Jennies Pick Up 10th Win 79-59 Over Rogers State

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Jan. 23, 2021) - Central Missouri Jennies Basketball continued their winning ways defeating Rogers State by 20 Saturday afternoon, 79-59 at the Multi. The Jennies shot the ball exceptionally well and clamped down on defense in the second half to preserve their 10th win of the season, improving to 10-2.

How It Happened
• It was a tremendous shooting day for the Jennies who hit 25-52 and were 9-19 from three. Roger State connected on 42% of their field goal attempts but were just 3-17 from behind the arc.
• The Jennies held a big advantage in the paint grabbing 40 rebounds to the Hillcats 29 and scoring 30 points in the lane.
• UCM did an excellent job of getting to the free throw line. Rogers State committed 24 personal fouls and the Jennies went 20-25 at the line..
• Both teams got off to a fast start. Rogers State hit five of their first six attempts and the Jennies three of their first four.
Morgan VanHyfte hit a three to tie the game at 15 and Makenna Vanzant a three of her own gave the Jennies their first lead 20-18. After 10 furious minutes, the Jennies led by one, 21-20.
Graycen Holden pushed the Jennies lead to five, 27-22, with an old fashioned three-point play to cap a 6-0 Jennies run.
• The Hillcats though answered right away with a 9-3 run and reclaimed a 31-30 lead.
• Their lead was brief as the Jennies closed the half on a 9-0 run over the final 2:20. Holden gobbled and offensive rebound and put back a layup as time expired to give the Jennies a 41-33 lead at the half.
Nija Collier extended that halftime lead to 10 with a pair of free throws out of the gate, but Rogers quickly cut that lead in half and down to five, 43-38.
• Collier though was in foul trouble and had to sit for much of the half. That was no issue for UCM as Holden stepped in and scored seven points in the third quarter.
• It was another player off the bench for the Jennies though who was lighting it up from behind the arc. Charley Bovaird went 3-4 from three in the quarter scoring nine points. She made back-to-back threes in the final minute of the quarter to get the lead back up to 11, 61-50 going to the fourth.
• Layups by Holden and Kade Hackerott brought the lead to 15 to start the fourth and the rout was on from there. The lead never dipped back below 15 and UCM was well on their way to a 20-point win, 79-59.

It Was Over When...
• Rogers State fought hard in the third quarter to keep the game close, but back-to-back threes from Charley Bovaird to close out the quarter put the Jennies lead back over 10 where it remained the rest of the game.
