Jennies Cruise In Win Over RiverHawks

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Jan. 21, 2021) - It was a welcome home party for Central Missouri Jennies Basketball Thursday night at the Multi. UCM dominated Northeastern State winning by 24, 86-62 to improve to 9-2 on the season.

How it Happened
• The Jennies led for almost 38 minutes of the game, taking a 13-10 lead midway through the first quarter and never looked back.
• Central Missouri shot the ball well hitting on 47% of their field goal attempts and were 8-9 at the free throw line.
• UCM held a distinct advantage in the paint. They grabbed 51 rebounds and scored 54 points in the paint to the RiverHawks 30. The Jennies had a +24 advantage in rebounding.
• With the game tied at 10 midway through the first frame, Gigi McAtee hit a three to give UCM a 13-10 lead. The Jennies never trailed again and closed the quarter on an 18-6 run. McAtee hit another three in the closing seconds to push the lead to 12, 28-16. McAtee was 3-3 from three in the quarter and scored 11 points.
• The Jennies held at double-digit lead for the rest of the half. With under three minutes left to go, UCM made it a 20-point game on an Ali Vigil offensive rebound and put-back. Nija Collier grabbed an offensive board and hit a layup to finish up the half with UCM ahead by 22, 50-28.
• Collier then took over in the third period. Playing nearly all 10 minutes, she was just two rebounds shy of a double-double for the frame. She was 5-6 from the floor, 2-2 at the free throw line scoring 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds, three of them offensive. 
• Collier got the second half started burying a three less than a minute in the quarter. UCM continued to push the lead, getting another three from McAtee and a layup from Graycen Holden, going ahead by 31, 68-37, just past the midway point in the period. Another bucket for Collier in the final minute kept the Jennies lead at 30, 78-48 going to the fourth.
• With the large lead, the Jennies were able to empty their bench, getting everyone who dressed some action. Kade Hackerott and Madison Cook came off the bench to score for the Jennies and they rolled to an 86-62 win.

It Was Over When...
• Midway through the second period the Jennies used a 9-0 run to open up a 20 point lead. Olivia Nelson took over the offense scoring on back-to-back layups. Ali Vigil and Graycen Holden also chipped in during the scoring spurt putting the Jennies up 41-21.

Jennies Stat Leaders
Gigi McAtee was 4-8 from three and scored a career-high 16 points. She also dished out five assists. 
Nija Collier put up a double-double with 21 points and 18 rebounds. She also had a steal and a block. 
Brooke Littrell finished a rebound-shy of a double-double with 11 points and nine boards.
Olivia Nelson was 5-9 from the field for 11 points.
Morgan VanHyfte filled the stat sheet with four points, three rebounds, three assists, a block and four steals. Her 29 steals now lead the MIAA. 

For the RiverHawks
• Zaria Collins led NSU with 15 points and six rebounds.
• Shae Sanchez added 14 points on 6-12 shooting.
• Maegan Lee scored nine with two assists.
• Kiarra Brooks came off the bench to score five points and grab five rebounds.

News and Notes
Gigi McAtee not only scored a career-high, she scored her 200th career point on her first basket of the game.
Nija Collier's 21 points are a season-high and her 18 rebounds a career-best. That puts her in the UCM top-25 in rebounds for a single-game. Her double-double was her third this season.
• The Jennies improve to 10-0 all-time against the RiverHawks.
• This is the second time this season the Jennies have scored 80 points in a game.
Olivia Nelson reached career points number 100 and Morgan VanHyfte dished out assist number 100.
Ali Vigil scored her first career points when she put in a pair of free throws in the second quarter. She also made her first field goal later in the game. 
• UCM was 8-9 at the free throw line, their highest single-game percentage (88.9%) this season.
• The Jennies also set single game highs with 36 made field goals and 77 field goal attempts. 
• All 14 Jennies that dressed played tonight. The first time that's happened all season. 
• It was a good mix of scoring between freshman and veterans. The freshman scored 43 and the upper-classmen scored 43.

• The Jennies stay at home to take on Rogers State Saturday, Jan. 23 with a 1 p.m. tip-off.
