TOPEKA, Kan. (Feb. 29, 2020) - Central Missouri Softball suffered their first loss of the season to Rockhurst while competing in the Washburn Invitational. The Jennies battled back in the afternoon to defeat St. Cloud State in the top of the seventh inning to earn the split on day two of the three day tournament.
Game 1: Central Missouri 1, Rockhurst 3
How It Happened:
• A Rockhurst single up the middle scored the Hawks first run of the game in the bottom of the first.
• Central Missouri tied the game in the top of the fourth as Sydney Wellshear singled up the middle to score pinch runner, Amolee Hawkins from second.
• In the bottom half of the inning, Rockhurst scored two runs off three hits and three UCM errors.
• The Jennies left five runners on base, three of which were in scoring position, in the final three innings.
• The Jennies 26 at bats and six hits are the lowest of UCM's six games so far this season.
• UCM's four walks is their most in a single-game so far this season.
• Rockhurst out hit the Jennies 8-6.
• Both the Jennies and the Hawks left a total of eight runners on base.
Leading the Jennies:
• Bailey Fowler finished led with two hits.
• Wellshear was 1-2 with the Jennies only RBI of the game.
• Alexa Bradley pitched 3.2 innings. In 19 batters faced she allowed seven hits, one walk and three runs to score.
• Gentry Wishard finished the game in the circle, allowing one hit and three walks in seven at bats.
For the Hawks:
• Shelby Wibbenmeyer and Payton Staggs led Rockhurst with two hits each.
• Staggs, Emily Clark and Josie Lindemann were each responsible for the Hawks three total RBI.
• Lexie Storrer threw four innings for the Hawks, allowing two hits, two walks and one run scored.
• Olivia Prather finished the game. In 12 at bats she gave up four hits.
Game 2: Central Missouri 6, St. Cloud State 4
How It Happened:
• A sacrifice by Ashlyn Cook scored Deer for the Jens first run of the game in the top of the first.
• A UCM throwing error scored the Huskies first run in the bottom of the second. St. Cloud was able to add another before the inning was over to take a 2-1 advantage.
• In the top of the third, the Cook/Deer duo scored UCM's second run as Deer made her way home on Cook's ground out to the short stop.
• St. Cloud regained their lead at 3-2 with a double in the bottom half of the inning to score a runner from third.
• The Huskins added another in the bottom of the fifth off a sacrifice fly to center field that scored a runner from third.
• A double in the top of the sixth by Jessica Sader put pinch runner Amolee Hawkins in scoring position. Hawkins was then brought home on a double to the right side by Makenzie Cooper.
• With 3-4 deficit in the top of the seventh, UCM rallied, scoring three runs off two hits.
• Pagie Petefish and the Jennies defense went 3-3 to win it 6-4.
• The Jennies left a total of six runners on base compared to the Huskies four.
• Central Missouri totaled three extra base hits, St. Cloud State had one.
• Four different Huskies were responsible for their four team RBI while Cook earned three of the Jennies six total RBI.
Leading the Jennies:
• Deer went 2-3 and scored the game-high of three runs and two stolen bases.
• Ashlyn Cook drove in the game-high of three RBI.
• Earning her fourth win of the season, Petefish gave up six hits and three earned runs while collecting seven strikeouts in 27 at bats.
For the Huskies:
• St. Cloud's designated player led the Huskies with two hits in three at bats.
• LaPoint led the St. Cloud pitching staff with three strikeouts in three innings while allowing three hits and two runs scored.
News & Notes:
• UCM totaled seven runs scored and 14 hits on the second day of the Washburn Invitational.
• Cook finished the day 3-3 with runners on third.
• After seven games, Wellshear is the only Jennie hitting over .524 with 11 hits, seven RBI and five runs in 21 at bats.

Central Missouri Softball (6-1) will compete in the third and final day of the Washburn Invitational tomorrow, March 1. The Jennies are scheduled to take on Sioux Falls at 1 p.m. followed by Missouri-St. Louis at 3 p.m. in Topeka, Kan.
