TINLEY PARK, Ill. (Feb. 23, 2020) - Central Missouri Jennies Bowling headed into the final bracket as the No. 1 seed after going 11-0, but couldn't overcome poor spare shooting in the bracket games and took fourth place.
The morning started with the final match of pool play. The Jennies defeated Dominican University 971-797 to finish 11-0 in pool play and earn the No. 1 seed.
In the bracket, the Jennies started off against Kentucky Wesleyan. They were up 1-0 after a 202-137 game one win, but lost the next four, 199-157, 200-158, 172-156, 167-157.
In the third place game, the Jens again started well, taking the first two games from Drury, 203-172, 211-194, however the Panthers took the next four, 197-171, 178-176, 223-200, 201-168, for a 4-2 series win.Â
Individually,
Jacqueline Garcia-Ulloa made the all-tournament team after a fourth place finish in all events. She averaged 196.83 pins and totaled 1,181 in six games. Two other Jennies were in the top-10.
Kennedi Laughlin and
Hailey Carter went back-to-back in sixth and seventh place. Laughlin averaged 190.5 and Carter 190.0
Paytynn Kuhns was just outside the top-10 in 12th place averaging 187.00.Â
The Jennies as a team went 11-2. They averaged 188.3 pins which was the highest in the tournament.Â
On day one, UCM opened the match against Drury and came out knocking down 991 pins. They won match one, 991-836. The Jennies then defeated Kentucky Wesleyan 972-811, and Spalding 942-816. They had an easy go of it with Aurora winning by more than 200 pins, 923-708.Â
Central Missouri though saved their best for last with a high score of 1,038 in a win in their final match against Marian University. That score was not only a high for the Jennies, but the highest single match score of any team on day one.Â
Heading into traditional matches, the Jennies started off with a 904-732 win over North Central College. The Jens then took down Elmhurst, 941-871, Augustana (Ill.) 876-830, and the hosts Lewis 999-955. They closed the day with a win over Upper Iowa 910-879.Â
Kentucky Wesleyan was the bracket winner and finished 9-4. Candace Kipp was the individual champion totaling 1,264 pins and averaging 210.67 per game.Â
The Jennies will compete again next weekend at the Big Red Classic, hosted by the University of Nebraska.Â
