WARRENSBURG, Mo. (October 4, 2020) - With the suspension of fall sports, that means we are bringing back On This Day in UCM History: Fall Edition. We'll relive some UCM highlights from our fall sports. Today's On This Day in UCM History is presented by Traditions.
On This Day: October 4
Year: 2014
Sport: Football
Mules Football trailed 31-16 in Joplin, Mo. heading to the fourth quarter with Missouri Southern. Midway through the fourth, the Mules scored to cut the lead to 31-24 capping a 10-play drive with a Hayden Hawk two-yard rushing score. The Mules forced a three-and-out on the Lions next possession and needed just five plays and 1:43 to tie the game when Hawk found Kyle Echols for 18 yards.
Each team had a chance to grab the lead late in the fourth, but the defense's held stout forcing each to punt and sending the game to overtime. The Lions got the ball down inside the 10 on their first possession, but a fumble picked up by Kadarius Green kept MSSU off the board. The Mules picked up nine yards and set up Will Mondragon for a 33 yard game-winning field goal and a 34-31 victory.
