Jens Win 10th Straight, Down Lions

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Jan. 18, 2020) - Central Missouri used a dominant first quarter to pick up their 10th straight win, defeating Missouri Southern 76-44. The Jens never trailed, and actually, led before the game even started, moving to 13-3 on the season and 7-0 in the MIAA.

How it Happened
• UCM shot better than 40% from the floor connecting on 27-63 while the Lions were just 18-59 for 30.5%.
• The Jennies took advantage of their trips to the free throw line hitting 17-of-24. MSSU was 6-13.
• Central Missouri had an edge rebounding the basketball, grabbing 46 to the Lions 37. UCM also scored 14 second-chance points thanks to 13 offensive rebounds.
• The Lions lost the ball 22 times with UCM grabbing 17 steals. UCM turned those 22 turnovers into 30 points and scored 17 in transition.
• The Jens also blocked eight Lion shot attempts.
• Before the opening tip, the Jennies were shooting free throws. An administrative technical foul was issued against Missouri Southern and Morgan Fleming sank a free throw for a 1-0 lead. UCM added to their lead and scored the first 14 points of the game. The offense was on fire hitting 12-20 from the field and 2-5 from three and the Jennies built a 26-point lead, 31-5 after just 10 minutes.
• The Lions fought hard, but were unable to overcome the tremendous hole they dug for themselves. The Jens lead extended to 30 at one point in the second, and led at the break, 47-20.
• The game was never in doubt in the second half as the Jennies lead never got below 23 points. Ellisha Davis' field goal in the fourth gave the Jens their largest lead, 72-31, with 8:24 left and all that was left to do was wait until the clock read zeroes. 

It Was Over ...
• Before it started when Fleming made the technical foul free throw before the opening tip. That began a 14-0 run for the Jennies and the Lions were never able to recover.

Jennies Stat Leaders
• Megan Skaggs picked up a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
• Morgan Fleming scored a game-high 23 points and was 10-11 at the free throw line.
• Nija Collier was also in double-figures with 12 points and collected seven boards.
• Morgan VanHyfte did a lot for the Jens with nine points, five rebounds, four steals, two assists and a blocked shot.

For the Lions
• Chasidee owens led the team with nine points and grabbed six rebounds.
• Zoe Campbell scored eight with eight rebounds and three blocked shots.
• Destiny Cozart passed out four assists with three points.

News and Notes
• The Jennies 10 straight wins are their most since winning 16 straight in 2017-18.
• The win is the Jennies 999th in program history.
• Megan Skaggs' double-double is her first of the season.
• Morgan Fleming jumped into 18th all-time in scoring and has 1,295 career points.
• UCM's 10 blocked shots and 17 steals are their most in game this season. Their 31 first-quarter points are also a season-best for any quarter.
• Central Missouri has won six straight over the Lions and are 43-24 all-time.
• Morgan VanHyfte surpassed 150 career rebounds.
• This is the 13th time in 16 games the Jens have allowed 60 points or fewer. The Lions' 44 points are the fewest for a UCM opponent this season.
• This is the seventh time the Jennies haven't allowed more than 10 points in a quarter as MSSU scored just five in the first.

• The Jennies will take to the road again in search for program win No. 1,000. They'll be in Claremore, Okla. Thursday, Jan. 23 to take on MIAA newcomer Rogers State. Tip off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
