WARRENSBURG, Mo. (May 14, 2019) - Jennies Bowling has added two outstanding future student-athletes by signing Cayla Bortz and Sydney Miller to National Letters of Intent.  Bortz and Miller are both multi-year Kansas High School First-Team All-State selections and bring a wealth of team experience and individual success to Central Missouri. 
 
"We are incredibly excited to have Sydney and Cayla join us at UCM", Head Coach Ron Holmes stated.  "Both young ladies are wonderful competitors, great friends and excellent students who have motivated each other to succeed during their youth and high school careers. Cayla and Sydney now get to compete together as teammates and we are really looking forward to watching them succeed at this next level of competition.  Both women will help our team in several key areas and will contribute immediately."
 
Sydney was a four-year starter at Olathe East High School and Head Coach Chuck Thibodeau, leading her team to four appearances at the KSHSAA 6A Girls Bowling Championships, three Regional Championships (2017-19) and three KSHSAA individuals medals, including a fifth-place finish in 2018.  Sydney is a two-time Kansas 6A 1^st Team All-State selection (2018-19), two-time Sunflower League Female Bowler of the Year (2018-19) and four-time All-Sunflower League selection, with her last three years as a First-Team selection. 
 
Among many other high school honors, Sydney was selected as one of the Topeka Capital Journal's Best of Kansas Preps, KMBC / HyVee's Athlete of the Week and is a 2-time Olathe City Champion.  Sydney also played competitive club and high school soccer and was a member of the OEHS academic Honor Roll. 
 
In 2017, Sydney was a member of the USAAI Team USA squad who competed in Brisbane, Australia in the Queensland Junior Cup.  Sydney is a four-time Champion of the KC Open and HOA Jr. Classic youth tours and has earned berths to two Jr. Team USA Championships events (2018-19). 
 
Sydney's personal accomplishments include a high game of 299, high series of 734 and high average of 206.  The daughter of Wendy and Matt Miller, Sydney will wear #17 for UCM and will major in Biology.  Sydney's personal coach, Brian Horn, is also an alumni of Central Missouri Bowling.
 
Cayla excelled on her Shawnee Heights High School team throughout her career, leading Coach Scott Mercer's team to four Kansas High School Girls Bowling Championships appearances and two Regional titles (2018-19).  Bortz anchored the Thunderbirds to second-place (2018) and third-place team finishes (2017) at the KSHSAA 5A State Bowling Championships, while finishing as the Kansas 5A Girls Individual Runner-Up twice (2017-18) and earned third-place honors in 2016.  Cayla was a four-time Kansas 5A All-State selection, earning three First-Team selections (2017-19) for her accomplishments and she was also a two-time state Individual Scratch Champion (2018-19).  Bortz was also the 2019 United Kansas League Bowler of the Year / Individual Champion, the 2017 Centennial League Individual Champion and two-time Topeka Top Ten Champion. 
 
Cayla also was an outstanding student at Shawnee Heights, serving as Class President for two years, was a member of the Softball and Band programs, and a member of the National Honor Society.  Cayla also is a multi-time Champion of multiple regional youth tours, earning Bowler of the Year honors from the Heart of America Jr. Tour in 2017.  Among many other accomplishments, Bortz was selected as one of Topeka Capital Journal's Best of the Preps, was a multi-time WIBW Athlete of the Week and Kaw Valley Female Youth Bowler of the Year in 2018.  Cayla has earned also berths to the last four Jr. Team USA Championship Trials. 
 
Cayla has a high average of 210, high game of 299 and high series of 764.  The daughter of Traci and Chris Bortz, Cayla will wear #7 for Central Missouri and plans to major in Disaster & Crisis Management.
