Back to Back! Mules Win Second Straight MIAA Tournament

PITTSBURG, Kan. (May 12, 2019) - Central Missouri Mules Baseball (38-14) swept the MIAA Championships, picking up their second straight MIAA Tournament Championship Sunday afternoon. In the mother-of-all MIAA games, the Mules defeated Central Oklahoma 10-2 to lay claim to their 23rd MIAA Tournament Championship in team history. 

Play-by-Play
• The Bronchos got the scoring started with a run in the first. A groundout gave UCO a 1-0 lead.
• UCM responded right away in the second scoring twice. Michael Sinks and Cole Taylor each picked up RBI singles to give the Mules the lead.
• The Mules kept the lead the rest of the way. Chase Plymell in his first start limited the Bronchos to just two runs on three hits in five innings.
• Sinks picked up another RBI in the fourth on his second single of the ball game, pushing the Mules lead to 3-1.
• UCO got a run back in the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run before UCM started to pull away.
• The Mules got two in the fifth on an RBI single from Mason Janvrin and a run scoring on a throwing error.
• They added four more in the sixth. A bases loaded walk started the scoring before Janvrin drove in another run with a single.
• UCM got their eighth run on a ground out and Erik Webb made it a 9-2 game with an RBI double. 
• UCM capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the 9th.
Collin Jones worked around a leadoff single in the ninth with a strikeout for the game's final out.

Mules Stat Leaders
Chase Plymell worked the first five innings. He gave up two runs (one earned) on three hits with a walk and a strikeout.
Collin Jones pitched the final four innings for a save. He allowed a hit and a walk and struck out five.
Mason Janvrin was 3-5 with a stolen base, run scored and two RBI.
Josh Schumacher and Michael Sinks each picked up a pair of hits.
Zak Whalin finished 1-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.

For the Bronchos
• Colton Craft started and pitched the first four innings giving up five runs (four earned).
• TJ Black was 2-4 with a run scored.
• Taylor Avila had a home run and finished 1-3.

News and Notes
• The Mules picked up their 23rd MIAA Tournament Championship.
• UCM swept the 2019 MIAA Baseball championships with a regular season and tournament championship.
Mason Janvrin pushed his reached base streak to 52 this season and 64 in the last two. His stolen base was his 34th this season, putting him in the Mules all-time top-10.
Collin Jones picked up his first career save pitching the final four innings.
Chase Plymell entered with just five innings pitched this season. He matched that by throwing five this afternoon.
• The Mules struck out 21 batters in their two games today.
• UCM advanced to the MIAA Championship game with a 5-4 walk-off win earlier today. Janvrin had the game-winning single.
• Four of the five Mules games in the MIAA Tournament were a 5-4 score.

Up Next
• The Mules will await their fate when they find out who and when they will play in the NCAA Central Region Championship. With the MIAA automatic bid, they already know they are a part of the tournament.
