EDMOND, Okla. (May 1, 2019) - Central Missouri Jennies Softball bucked a three-year streak of losing their first MIAA Tournament game with their 4-1 win over Lindenwood Wednesday afternoon. The Jennies got a great pitching performance from
Shelby Clark and three first-inning runs proved to be enough to take down the Lions.
Play-by-Play
• A trend started in the first as the Lions left runners on first and second without scoring. Lindenwood stranded 10 runners in the game.
• The Jennies got off to a hot start and had a 1-0 lead three batters into the game. Back-to-back hits by
Lauryn Deer and
Ashlyn Cook put runners on the corners with nobody out.
Hailey Crabtree drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly to score Deer.
•
Jessica Sader then went to the opposite field for a run-scoring triple to make it 2-0. She scored on
Taylor Dames' RBI ground out and after one the Jens had a 3-0 lead.
• The Lions again stranded a pair in the second and the score remained 3-0 until the fourth. Lindenwood finally got on the board after a sacrifice fly, but it could've been more. LWU had runners on first and second with nobody out, but were only able to get the one run in.
• A two-out double by Sader in the fifth led to the fourth Jennies run. She scored as Dames' fly ball to right was misplayed and UCM took the three-run lead back, 4-1.
• Lindenwood got runners on base again in the sixth and seventh, but Clark was up to the task and kept them from scoring in UCM's 4-1 win.
