Jennies Comeback to Earn Split With Washburn

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (April 5, 2019) - Central Missouri Jennies Softball (20-12, 6-2 MIAA) rallied to come back in game one of their doubleheader with Washburn and managed a split with the Ichabods Friday afternoon.

Game 1 - Central Missouri 5, Washburn 4 (8 innings)
Play-by-Play

• Things didn't start well for UCM as the Ichabods jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first two innings. Washburn plated three in the first and one in the second, taking advantage of some Jennies defensive miscues as two of the four runs were unearned.
• The Jennies had a chance to cut into the Ichabod lead in the second with back-to-back lead off singles, but the inning ended with the bases loaded without scoring a run.
Alexa Bradley really settled into a groove after the second inning. She ended up going the distance allowing just four hits over the next six innings.
• Central Missouri slowly chipped away all game long. They scored their first run in the bottom of the third. Lauryn Deer singled and advanced to third on a throwing error to lead off the inning. Ashlyn Cook brought her in with a sacrifice fly to make it a 4-1 game.
• An inning later, Taylor Dames went deep to center, cutting the lead in half, 4-2.
• Dames wasn't finished there though. Leading off the sixth, she made it a one-run game, 4-3, this time pulling a ball over the left field fence for a home run.
• It looked like the Jennies were about to tie the game later in the inning. With Deer on second, Aubrey Daniel's shot up the middle was snagged by the second baseman to keep Deer from scoring and the lead for Washburn at 4-3.
• Looking for insurance in the seventh, Bradley stranded Washburn runners on second and third with her fourth strikeout of the game.
• The Jennies were down to their final out in the seventh when Jessica Sader started things singling through the left side. One batter later, a soft line drive to the outfield was misplayed allowing Sader to score from first with the tying run.
• Bradley worked a 1-2-3 eighth and Markin led off the home half with a walk. She moved up on Taylor Nickel's sacrifice bunt and took third on a wild pitch. Still just 90 feet away with two outs, Deer ripped a single to score Markin and give UCM a walk-off win.

Game Two - Washburn 8, Central Missouri 2
• For the second straight game the Ichabods raced ahead in the early innings, this time scoring three in the second. A two-out bases-clearing double gave Washburn a 3-0 advantage.
• The Jennies offense couldn't get much going, with just three hits in the first four innings.
• Washburn poured it on in the fifth hanging up a four spot. All nine batters came to the plate and the Ichabods scored on two singles, a bases loaded walk, and a wild pitch.
• In the sixth, they made it an 8-0 game when Taylor Kirk led off with a deep home run to left center.
• The Jennies kept the game alive in the bottom of the inning scoring two runs. Jessica Sader picked up an RBI single and Brie Murray was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. A ground out though ended the inning with the bags full.
• The Jennies again threatened in their final turn at bat, getting two on, but a pop up on the infield ended the game at 8-2.
