Mules Take Series from Bearcats

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (April 20, 2019) - Central Missouri Mules Baseball (28-12, 19-8 MIAA) won games two and three of their series with Northwest Missouri to win the three-game set. The Mules got up early in game three and put the Bearcats away 7-4.

Play-by-Play
• Things got dicey in the top of the first as two errors loaded the bases for Northwest Missouri. Mule starter Luke Lucas got out of the jam though without any runs crossing the plate.
• Three batters into the bottom of the first, the Mules had scored two runs. Alex Madera singled and Erik Webb brought him in with a long two-run homer to left, putting the Mules on top early.
• Central Missouri followed that up with another two-spot in the third. It was Webb again, this time doubling in Mason Janvrin. Madera scored his second run on Harrison Schnurbusch's RBI ground out.
• Northwest pulled to within a run in the fourth. A two-RBI single made it a 4-2 game. They added an unearned run before the inning was over and after four, it was 4-3 Mules.
• The Bearcats looked to tie in the fifth on the base paths. A two-out walk and single put runners on the corners. Both runners broke to steal a bag, but the Mules cut down the runner at the plate to keep the one-run lead in tact and end the inning.
• The Mules got their insurance runs in the seventh from, guess who? Erik Webb. His two-out, two-RBI double was the biggest hit in the inning. The Mules also scored on Janvrin's squeeze bunt which was misplayed at second base.
• Northwest tacked on a run in the eighth with a solo home run, but that was all. Jonathan Sprinkle issued a walk, but a double play erased the base runner and the Mules came away with a 4-3 win.
