Jennies Clinch No. 2 Seed in MIAA Tournament with Win at Lincoln

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (March 2, 2019) - No. 24 Central Missouri Jennies Basketball closed the regular season with a convincing win at Lincoln. The Jens led the entire way in their 77-52 win. The win puts UCM at 22-5 this season and 15-4 in the MIAA.

How it Happened
• Central Missouri shot 48.4% from the floor and held the Blue Tigers to just 34%.
• UCM hit seven more three-pointers than Lincoln, 11-4.
• Rebounding played a big role in the Jennies win. They collected 48 boards, 15 on the offensive glass. Lincoln only pulled down 21 rebounds.
• Both teams turned the ball over with the Jennies losing the handle 22 times and the Blue Tigers 17. 
• The Jennies had a big advantage scoring in the paint, 36-26.
• The Jennies started out quick. Megan Skaggs put in a layup and Morgan Fleming and Sydney Crockett hit three's and the Jens were out to a 10-5 lead.
• Lincoln made it a two-point game before the first media timeout, 10-8, but the Jennies closed the opening quarter on a 12-6 run.
• Megan Skaggs hit a triple and Fleming and Peyton Taylor had back-to-back layups for a 22-14 Jennies lead after one.
• The second quarter started with some controversy. Paige Redmond's shot-clock beating three was reviewed and initially taken off the board, before being put back on and the Jennies led by 11, 25-14.
• Redmond and Fleming each hit three-pointers as UCM extended their lead to 15, 33-18, midway through the second.
• Redmond then found a streaking Fleming for an easy layup, 37-18 Jennies.
• The two teams traded baskets over the final three minutes, and after 20 minutes, the Jennies were up 18, 45-27.
• Central Missouri continued to pour it on to start the third. After two turnovers, Morgan Fleming knocked in a layup and Morgan VanHyfte's three gave the Jens a 50-27 lead.
• Midway through the period, Paige Redmond led outlets to Skaggs and VanHyfte for fast-break layups and the Jennies put up 21 points in the third.
• Taking a 66-40 lead into the fourth, the Jennies were content to run out the clock and that's just what they did in their 77-52 win.

Jennies Stat Leaders
• Megan Skaggs finished with a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. She was 7-9 from the floor.
• Paige Redmond filled the stat sheet with 18 points, nine assists and seven rebounds.
• Morgan VanHyfte chipped in eight points and nine rebounds.
• Morgan Fleming matched the team-high with 18 points. 

For the Blue Tigers
• Bre Coleman scored a game-high 21 points on 9-14 shooting.
• Zhanesha Dickerson scored six points with six rebounds.
• Tempary Gunter and Kaloni Pryear also scored six each.

News and Notes
• The Jennies earned the No. 2 seed in next week's MIAA Tournament. Their opponent is still to be determined.
• Megan Skaggs moved into sole possession of 22nd place in Jennies all-time scoring. She also pulled down career rebound number 400. 
• Skaggs' double-double was her third this season, a team-best
• Paige Redmond matched a career high with nine assists. She got all nine in the first three quarters.
• Morgan VanHyfte's nine rebounds are a new career-high.
• The Jens closed the season with six straight wins, matching a season-high.
• Not only were the Jennies 48 rebounds a team-best, the 21 rebounds for the Blue Tigers is an opponent team low.

Up Next
• Central Missouri will wait for their opponent in the MIAA Tournament. This much they know, they are the No. 2 seed and will play their quarterfinal round game Thursday, March 7.
