ST. CHARLES, Mo. (Feb. 23, 2019) - Mules Wrestling totaled 43.5 teams points to finish 7th in the field of 11 teams at the Central Super Regional. UCM had a strong showing at the regional with five Mules placing at 125,133,141,174, and 184.
John Feeney was the top-finisher for the Mules finishing second and scoring 13 points at 133-pounds. He went 2-1 on the day taking down Charles McNeal (Mckendree) by decision 10-7. In the semi-finals, he captured another win by decision over Tyler Lawley (Newman) 5-2. In the Championship match, he went head to head with Tanner Hitchcock (Lindenwood), he fell by decision 4-2. Feeney's second-place finish qualifies him for the NCAA Wrestling National Championships.Â
Dakota Thevel scored 11 points for UCM placing fifth at 141-pounds. Thevel's first win on the day came in his third match, where he won by fall over James Loi ( Ky. Wesleyan) at 1:18. He kept the momentum into his next matchup defeating Peter Juster by decision 9-7. Dakota was defeated in the consolation semi-finals to move on to the fifth-place match. In the fifth-place match he won by medical forfeit over Kevin Kissane (Newman). At 125-pounds,
Erick Vargas also placed fifth scoring 9 points for the Mules. His first win came by sudden victory over Broderick Green (Fort Hays St.) In the fifth-place match, Vargas won by disqualification over Clay Singh (Drury).
At 174-pounds.
Benjamin Gadbois finished in sixth place scoring 5-points for the Mules. Gadbois captured a win over Vin Kriegshauser (Truman) Â by decision 6-0.
Dominique Hampton was the final Mule to place at the regional at 184 pounds and scored 5 points for the team. Hampton picked up his win on the day by decision over Ivan Balavage (Newman) 7-6. In the fifth-place match, Hampton did not compete due to injury. .
