Mules Capture First Road Victory

EDMOND, Okla. (Feb. 2, 2019) -  UCM trailed UCO for the majority of the game, but bench points and heart solidified their first road victory of the season 61-58. The Mules improve to 11-9 on the season and 4-7 in the MIAA.

How it Happened
• Both teams seemed to struggle when it came to shooting the ball, the Mules shot 33.9% from the field compared to the Bronchos 37.3%.
• The Mules scored 37 in the second half to go back and forth with the Bronchos until the final seconds before coming out on top.
• For the game, the Mules turned the ball over only seven times to the Bronchos 14, seven of which were steals.
• Both teams crashed the boards, but the UCO out rebounded UCM 44-30. UCM took over in bench points 22-8.
• For roughly 17-minutes of the first half, the Bronchos were in charge, their largest lead was with 3:39 remaining with the Mules down 36-16. Two three-pointers from Blake Spellman and a tip-in at the buzzer from Jakob Lowrance sent the Mules into the break down 36-26.
• To start of the second half, the Mules struck back by scoring the first four points to close the gap 36-28.
• With a little more than 10 minutes to play, Daniel Farris cuts the lead to four with a layup from Jakob Lowrance leaving the score 45-41. James Byrd finds the ball after a Bronchos turnover and takes it to the hoop for a layup to tie it up 45-45 with under nine minutes to play.
Matt Wilkinson then drains a three from Blake Spellman to take the first lead of the half, 48-45 and after that, the Mules took care of business.
• It was the Mules game after Jakob Lowrance scored the last field goal and completing the three-point play with two minutes remaining setting the score 59-55. Jafar Kinsey's two free-throws would then solidify the Mules win.
