Mules Drop Hard Fought Battle with Ichabods

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Feb. 6, 2019) - Despite outscoring Washburn 36-33 in the second half, Central Missouri Mules Basketball lost a hard-fought battle to the Ichabods 74-69 Wednesday night at the Multipurpose Building. The loss puts the Mules at 11-10 this season and 4-8 in the MIAA.

How it Happened
• Washburn outshot the Mules 49%-44%, but the biggest difference was in three-point shooting where the Ichabods were 13-26 while UCM was 10-28.
• While UCM went 11-17 at the free throw line, the Ichabods were 13-13.
• Washburn had the rebounding advantage, 32-25, but there were only two second-chance points scored all-game.
• The Mules forced 19 Washburn turnovers and scored 21 points off those miscues.
• The game was tied four times with four lead changes.
• Things did not start well for the Mules who took nearly five minutes to score their first points. During that stretch, Washburn had already built an 11-0 lead.
• The Mules brought the lead down to five on a couple of occasions in the first half, but Washburn had an answer and took an eight-point lead, 41-33 into the half.
• Both teams traded baskets at the outset of the second half before the Mules made their run to bring the crowd to its feet.
• Trailing by 11, 46-35, the Mules went on a 20-2 run in a little over five minutes to claim their largest lead of the game, 55-48 with 12:05 left to play. The Mules did not miss, going 8-8 during the stretch and forced six Ichabod turnovers.
• It was Washburn's turn to go on a run of their own. They proceeded to scored 11 of the next 13 points and reclaim the lead, 59-57 with 7:30 left to play.
Gaven Pinkley gave the Mules the lead back with a three with 4:20 left and Jakob Lowrance sank two free throws as UCM pushed the lead to three, 66-63.
• Washburn responded though with six straight for a 69-66 lead with 3:06 left. After a strong Mules defensive possession, it was Michael Winger's turn to tie the game up at 69 with a three with 2:07 left.
• That was the last the Mules scored though and a three on the Ichabods next possession gave them the lead for good. In the final 1:40, UCM went 0-2 with a turnover and the Ichabods put the game away at the free throw line.

It Was Over When...
• UCM still had a chance to tie with six seconds left and possession under the Washburn basket, but the Mules couldn't get a shot off, turning the ball over and the Ichabods went 2-2 at the line to seal it.
