HAYS, Kan. (Nov. 5, 2019) - The 2019 MIAA Champions completed their regular season matches with a 2-1 overtime victory over Fort Hays State. The Jennies finish at the top of the league for the 11th time in program history with a MIAA record of 10-0-1.
How it Happened:
• Halfway through the first half, Cailey Perkins put the Tigers up 1-0 with a goal in the 25th minute.Â
• Fort Hays outshot the Jennies 8-3 in the first 45 minutes as UCM keeper
Lindsey Johnson made two saves before letting one get by.
• After numerous chances in the second half,
Makayla Toth was able to score the game-tying goal off a deflection from FHSU's keeper in the 83rd minute.Â
• Central Missouri dominated the second half possession, outshooting the Tigers 8-2.
• Still tied 1-1 as the game clock reached 0.0, the Jennies entered into their third overtime of the season.
• In the 8th minute of overtime, senior
Kelsey Mueller scored the Jennies game-winning goal with the help from
Kassie Newsom and
Macy Ruffalo.Â
Leading the Tigers:
• Fort Hays' Perkins scored her only shot of the game to give the Tigers an early 1-0 advantage.Â
• Chloe Montano lead FSHU's attack with three shots, two falling on goal.Â
• The league's top goal keeper, Megan Kneefel, recorded just two saves against the Jennies.
Leading the Jennies:
• Toth's second-half goal was her 16th of the season. The junior forward also led UCM's offense with four shots.Â
• Also scoring her only shot of the game was Mueller. Mueller's game-winning goal was her second of the season.
• With an assist today, Newsom now leads the Jennies with nine on the season.Â
• Johnson recorded three saves protecting the Jennies goal.
News & Notes:
• Today's win over FHSU marks the seventh-straight UCM victory over the Tigers. The Jennies increase their lead in the all-time series to 11-2-0.
Toth concludes regular-season play leading the MIAA with 40 points (16 goals, 8 assists).
• Newsom ranks second in the league with her nine assists and sixth with 23 total points.Â
• With a loss today, the Tigers become the fifth seed in the MIAA Tournament which will be hosted by the top-seeded Jennies.Â
