Soccer Defeats the Ichabods in MIAA Quarterfinal

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Nov. 8, 2019) - Kickoff of the MIAA quarterfinal match between Central Missouri and Washburn was a frigid 34 degrees. The top-seeded Jennies defeated the No. 8 seeded Ichabods 2-1 to advance to the semifinals. 

How it Happened: 
• Jennies offensive leader Makyla Toth put UCM on the board within the first 10 minutes against the Ichabods, scoring unassisted in the ninth minute. 
• Central Missouri dominated first-half possession as the Jens out shot Washburn 9-2 and totaled seven corners while the Ichabods finished the first 45 minutes without one. 
• In the 78th minute, Nayeli Gallo dribbled past Washburn defenders to score their Jennies second goal, unassisted. 
• Just three minutes later, Washburn's Olivia Grasso booted a free kick from about 30 yards outs to find the back of the Jens net for the Ichabods first goal of the match, 
• The Jennies were able to control ball possession for the final 10 minutes to earn their seventh consecutive MIAA quarterfinal win. 
• Washburn out shout the Jennies in the second half 7-6.
• Six of the Jens nine shots against the Ichabods were on goal. 

Leading the Ichabods:
• Grosso's goal in the 81st minute was her fifth of the season. 
• Grosso lead Washburn's attack with five shots, each one falling on goal.
• Washburn keeper Reagan Wells recorded all five of her saves in the first half.

Leading the Jennies:
• Finishing with the team-high of five shots was Gallo. The freshman midfielder put four of her five shots on goal, one finding the back of Washburn's net. 
• This was Toth's third-straight game scoring a goal for the Jennies. Her first-half goal was her 17th of the season.
Kassie Newsom recorded four shots while Macy Ruffalo finished with three.
• Asthon Dvorak recorded five saves in her second appearance of the season. 

News & Notes:
• The Ichabods end their 2019 season with an overall record of 7-10-1 and went 3-7-1 in league play. 
• The win is the Jennies 15th consecutive victory over Washburn as UCM increase their lead in the all-time series to 26-5-1.
• With 17 goals on the year, Toth ties third for most single-season goals in program history. Toth also ranks second in Jennies history with 44 career goals. 
• Gallo's goal was third of the season. 
• Tonight was Dvorak's first collegiate start in goal for the Jennies. 

Up Next: 
The now 17-1-1 Central Missouri Soccer team will face Central Oklahoma in the MIAA Semifinals. The Jennies will host the Bronchos on Friday, Nov 15th at 7 p.m. at Jennies Field.
