Bowling Starts Season at Newman Mid-States Classic

WICHITA, Kan. (Oct. 22, 2019) - Central Missouri Jennies Bowling started off their season this past weekend competing at the Newman Mid-States Classic. The Jennies picked up a fourth place finish in the tournament and were fifth based on number of pins.

The Jennies started the week going 5-1 in individual matches Saturday. They scored a high of 926 pins in a win over Colorado-Mesa. The only win for the Jennies that was not by more than 100 pins was a two-point win, 821-819 over College of St. Mary.

Sunday, UCM went 5-0 in Baker style matches. They had a high game of 773 to start off the morning against Iowa Western Community College.

Entering the bracket as the No. 5 seed, the Jennies defeated No. 4 Baker 3-0 in the best-of-five series (200-163, 213-183, 203-168). They then fell in four games to Kansas Wesleyan (117-188, 228-255, 173-173, 194-198) to earn fourth place in the bracket.

The Jennies traveled a number of athletes and eight saw action in at least three games. Katey Furze led the team with an average of 193.8 in five games. Kennedi Laughlin was right behind with 189.3 in three games and Paytynn Kuhns averaged 187.3 in four games.

Central Missouri competes again this weekend at the McKendree Bearcat Invitational, Friday-Sunday, Oct. 25-27 in Fairview Heights, Ill.
