HASTINGS, NEB. (Jan. 5, 2019)-- Eight Mules hit the mat earlier today at the Hastings Open in Hastings, Nebraska of the eight, two Mules placed overall in Justin Mitchell and Dakota Thevel. Daide Agnew, Martin Brunnert, and Chase Miller also all had a competitive day for UCM. 

Justin Mitchell, was on his game scoring 14.0 points on the day and finishing 2nd in the 125-pound weight class. Mitchell captured his first win by fall over Noah Kryfka (Northwestern (Iowa)). Then turned around to defeat Giancarlo Facio by fall (Concordia (Neb.)) (Fall 5:36). Mitchell fell to Montana Moon (Oklahoma City) in the first place match by major decision (Maj 13-1).

Dakota Thevel took care of business as well finishing 3rd place in the 141- weight class scoring 14.0 points on the day. In the first match, Thevel won by fall over Cole Mills (Northwestern (Iowa)) (Fall 2:40). Thevel went to win two more after that the first by fall over Ariel Rodriguez (Northeastern Junior College) (Fall 2:40) and the second by tech fall over Scott Fulsos (Nebraska-Kearney) (TF 20-4). Dakota picked up his first loss in the semifinal by fall to Zach Price (South Dakota State) (Fall 4:06). But came back in his last two matches winning by major decision over Cameron Devers (Concordia (Neb.)) (Maj 13-3) and by rule over Zac Charity (Hastings (Neb.)) (RULE) in the third-place match. 

Daide Agnew had a strong day winning three back to back matches by decision at 141-pounds after falling by major decision in his first match. Agnew won his first match by decision over Kyle Carey (Concordia (Neb.)) (Dec 15-10), then came back to take his second match by decision over Max Stevens (Hastings (Neb.)) (Dec 2-0). Then came back to win his third by decision over Scott Fulsos (Nebraska-Kearney) (Dec 11-10). Before falling in his final match of the day. Martin Brunnert, won two matches back to back after being defeated by a technical fall. Brunnert captured his first victory by decision over Tarron Adams (Hastings (Neb.)) (Dec 5-2), and his second by fall over Brady Childers (Northwestern (Iowa)) (Fall 3:24) before falling in his final match. Chase Miller, was on fire winning three matches back to back as well after being defeated in his first match. Miller won his second match by fall over Victor Garcia (Northwestern (Iowa)) (Fall 6:24). Then won his third and fourth by decision over Daniel Gonzalez (Hastings (Neb.)) (Dec 14-7) and Michael True (Colorado School Of Mines) (Dec 7-4) before being defeated in his final matchup.

Mules are back on the mat Wednesday, January 9 at the Multi to take on Newman.
