Jennies Fall to No. 5 Tigers

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Jan. 3, 2019) - In a highly anticipated top-25 matchup, No. 15 Central Missouri came up short in a low-scoring game with No. 5 Fort Hays State. The Tigers pulled away late for a 56-46 win and push the Jennies to 8-3 this season and 1-2 in the MIAA.

How it Happened
• The Jennies struggled mightily in the paint, allowing 42 points and scoring just 18. They were also outrebounded 32-30.
• Fort Hays commits the fewest turnovers in the NCAA, but the Jennies were able to come away with 12. However UCM turned it over 14 times, leading to 18 Tiger points.
• Neither team shot well from three with UCM going 6-21 and the Tigers just 2-12. But for the game, FHSU was 23-51 for 45%, while UCM was 17-53 for 32%.
• The Jennies started off whacking a pair of threes from Paige Redmond and Kim Crown, Crowns first three of the season, and led 6-0 1:30 into the game.
• The Tigers came right back with six straight and a back-and-forth first quarter saw four ties and three lead changes.
• Throughout the second quarter, the Jennies were able to keep it within a five-point game. They even got the lead down to one on two occasions. Megan Skaggs cut it to one with under one minute left with a layup, but the Tigers answered and led by three at the break.
• Fort Hays scored the first four points of the second-half to take a seven-point lead, but back-to-back threes from Morgan Fleming and Sydney Crockett brought it back down to one again, 31-30. In another low-scoring period, the Tigers added just one to their lead and went into the final 10 minutes ahead 39-35.
• Still leading by four less than a minute into the final frame, FHSU scored nine-straight in a 2:07 stretch to pull away to their largest lead, 48-37. That compounded by a 4:45 scoreless drought from the Jens sealed UCM's fate and the Tigers remained unbeaten at 12-0.

It Was Over When...
• A 9-0 run from 9:08 to 7:01 for the Tigers gave them then their largest lead, 48-37. They led by double-figures most of the rest of the way to keep the Jennies from coming back.

• Megan Skaggs also was in double-figures with 10 points.
