Jennies Get Back On Track With Win vs. Lopers

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Jan. 5, 2019) - Central Missouri Jennies Basketball pulled ahead late in the fourth quarter to secure a 64-49 win over Nebraska-Kearney. The win put the Jens at 9-3 this season and 2-2 in the MIAA.

How It Happened
• The Jennies outshot the Lopers all over the floor, converting 45.5% from the floor and 37.9% from three, holding UNK under 40% from the field and 30% from three.
• Central Missouri enjoyed a good day on the glass, pulling down 40 rebounds while the Lopers got just 31..
• Nebraska-Kearney did their damage in the paint, outscoring UCM 36-28 in the lane, while the Jennies hit seven more triples than the Lopers.
• Both teams did a good job holding onto the ball with 23 combined turnovers, 12 for the Jens and 11 for UNK.
• Central MIssouri knocked in a three on the game's first possession and never lost the lead.
• A three from Emilie Jobst with 1:08 left in the first gave the Jennies their largest lead to that point, 13-6, but UNK got back-to-back layups in the final 45 seconds to cut the lead down to just three after one.
• In the second, the Jennies were able to take their first double-digit lead, getting a layup from Morgan Fleming at the 6:19 mark to make it a 23-12 game. But the Lopers closed the half on an 11-6 run over the final five minutes and the Jennies lead was just six at the break.
• Just like the second, the Jennies started out hot to begin the third period. Sydney Crockett competed the rare four-point play and the Jens were looking to be in charge up 40-27 with 4:26 to go in the third. Central Missouri started the half on an 11-4 run in the first 5:34.
• After Morgan VanHyfte splashed a three to keep UCM up 10, the Lopers scored the final six points in the last 2:05 of the third, and actually cut into the Jennies six-point halftime lead trailing by just four, 45-41.  
• Still leading by four less than two minutes into the final period, the Jens went on a 6-0 run with two baskets from Kim Crown and one from Megan Skaggs to push the lead back into double-figures.
• Central Missouri outscored UNK 19-8 in the final period and pulled away for a 15-point win, 64-49. 


It Was Over When...
• The Jens lead was just four, 47-43 with 8:50 left in the game. Two layups from Kim Crown and one from Megan Skaggs on a UCM 6-0 run put the Jens up 10 with six minutes left and they cruised from there. 

Jennies Stat Leaders
• Morgan Fleming led the team with 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds with a block and a steal.
• Paige Redmond scored 11 points with three three-pointers and passed out a career-high nine assists.
• Kim Crown was 6-12 from the floor for 12 points. She grabbed six rebounds and blocked two shots.
• Sydney Crockett scored 10 points with two three-pointers. 
• Megan Skaggs chipped in with eight points, six rebounds, five assists and a block and a steal.

For the Lopers
• Brooke Carlson came off the bench to score a game-high 16 points, going 7-13 from the floor.
• Kelsey Sanger scored 12 points.
• Elisa Backes scored six with a pair of three pointers.

News and Notes
• The Jennies move to 7-1 all-time against the Lopers.
• Paige Redmond secured her 300th career rebound.
• Kim Crown scored her 100th point this season.
• Morgan Fleming knocked in her 250th career field goal and grabbed her 250th career rebound.
• Redmond's nine assists are the most for the Jennies this season. 
• The Lopers made just three three-pointers and two free throws, the lowest in a game for a UCM opponent this season.
• UCM held the Lopers to just eight fourth-period points, the sixth time this season an opponent has failed to reach 10 points. The Jens are 5-1 in games that has happened.
• This is the second time this season the Jennies have held an opponent below 50 points in a game. They also did so in their season opener against Southern Nazarene in a 55-47 win.
