PITTSBURG, Kan. (Jan. 12, 2019) - The No. 19 Central Missouri Jennies went on the road and fell to Pittsburg State after a tough battle 76-68. The Jennies drop to 10-3 overall and 3-3 in MIAA play.
How it Happened
• Turnovers and three-pointers were the highlights of the Central Missouri and Pittsburg State match-up.
• Pitt State was on fire from the three-point line shooting 8-17, compared to the Jennies 3-24. Shooting from the field was also a factor the Jennies shot 25-61, while the Gorillas were 24-52.
• The Jennies were outscored in bench points 25-11.
• Both teams were turnover prone with the Gorillas losing the ball 15 times and the Jennies 16 times, a total of 31 turnovers between both teams.
• The Gorillas wasted no time setting the tone, going on a 5-0 run early in the first quarter.
• The Jennies struggled shooting against the Gorillas early going 6-16 from the field, and 0-7 from behind the arc. Pitt State used that to their advantage and knocked down three-pointers going 3-4.
• The second period is when Pitt State took it up a notch. With a little under six minutes remaining in the second quarter, the Gorillas went on an 11-0 run taking their largest lead 40-21.
• The Jens didn't get that many shots off in the second only going 3-7 from the field and 0-2 from three, while the Gorillas went 7-12, and 4-6 from three.
• In the second, the Gorillas outshot the Jens 19-11, to lead 40-25 going into the break.
• At the start of the second half, the Jens found some energy going on a 4-0 run leaving the score 40-29. The Gorillas quickly responded with a 5-0 run of their own 45-29.
• Late in the third, the Jennies cut the lead to 10 after layups from
Morgan Fleming and
Paige Redmond. But the Gorillas went on a quick 3-0 run to set the score 55-42 headed into the final ten minutes.
• The Jens fought hard in the third, outshooting the Gorillas 17-15.
• The final ten-minutes were intense, the Jennies outscored the Gorillas 26-21.
• Even though the Jennies fought hard to come back,
Paige Redmond cut it within five 65-60 with two minutes remaining, but time was not on their side.
It Was Over When...
• The Gorillas took a nine-point lead with under a minute remaining and held on from there with the final score being 76-68.

Paige Redmond scored a game-high 33 points and six rebounds.

Morgan Fleming scored 13 points, grabbed four rebounds, added one assist, and one steal.

Megan Skaggs added 9 points, four rebounds, and went 3-4 from the free-throw line.

Morgan VanHyfte came off the bench and contributed eight points and two rebounds.
Peyton Taylor added three points and three assists.
For the Gorillas
• Kaylee DaMitz finished with team-high 16 points going 9-10 from the free-throw line.
• Maya Williams finished with 11 points, five rebounds, one assist, and two steals.
• Athena Alvarado was 5-12 for 11 points, grabbed a team-high of 10 rebounds, with one steal and one block.

• The Jennies are back at .500 in the MIAA with their 3-3 conference record.

Paige Redmond scored a career-high of 33 points in the matchup going 12-23 and 7-9 from the free-throw line.
