WICHITA, Kan. (Sept. 7, 2018) - Central Missouri Jennies Volleyball got a win in their first match Friday afternoon, taking down St. Edward's 3-1 (25-6, 25-15, 22-25, 25-23) in a hard fought match.
Game One: UCM 3, St. Edwards 1 (25-6, 25-15, 22-25, 25-23)
How it Happened
• The Jennies hit .295 for the match while the Hilltoppers managed to hit .161.
• UCM took a 2-0 lead in the match before two close sets finished out the match.
• The Jens took a 1-0 lead in set one and never trailed.
Hannah VanBuskirk gave UCM a 7-3 lead with a kill as UCM began to pull away. Leading 9-6, the Jens got the ball back on a SEU service error. They never gave the ball back as
Carly Offerdahl served 15 straight points and UCM took set one, 25-6.
• Set two was much closer with both teams still tied at 7-7. The Jens scored four straight after that with kills from VanBuskirk and
Audrey Fisher and two Hilltopper attack errors and the Jennies never trailed again. The Hilltoppers tied the set again at 14, but UCM scored 11 of the final 12 points to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
• The third set went back and fourth with six ties and five lead changes. VanBuskirk gave the Jennies a four-point lead, 13-9, their largest of the set with a kill. St. Edward's came back to tie the set at 16-all and took the lead, 18-17 after a UCM service error. The Jens got the lead back, 21-19, but the Hilltoppers fought back getting two kills to tie and two UCM errors to take the lead and won the set on a service error.
• The fourth set was just like the third. St. Edward's got off to a great start with a 5-1 lead, but the Jens fought back and a kill from
Ally Offerdahl tied the set at six-all. A 4-1 stretch from the Hilltoppers gave SEU the lead back at 10-7, but UCM was again up to the task, tying the set at 14-14.
Kylie Hohlen gave the Jens their first lead, 15-14, but at 17-all the set was still tied. The Hilltoppers grabbed the momentum, scoring four straight and taking a 22-18 lead. SEU still led by four, 23-19 when the Jennies stormed back to score the final six points of the match.
Carly Offerdahl knocked an ace to end the match.
Jennies Stat Leaders

Hannah VanBuskirk landed a game-high 14 kills.

Audrey Fisher added 12 kills and five blocks.

Hannah Engelken added eight. Engelken also had four blocks, one solo.

Game Two: UCM 3, Arkansas-Fort Smith 0 (25-26, 26-24, 28-24)
How it Happened
• The Jennies hit .204 to the Lions .136.Â
• In just three sets, the Jennies defense racked up 83 digs.
• UCM also landed eight blocks and four service aces.
• Set one was tight at the start with both teams tied at nine. The Jens then rattled off seven straight points, getting four kills, two from
Kylie Hohlen. The Jennies were able to cruise from their in their largest set win, 25-16 getting back-to-back kills from
Hannah Engelken and
Hannah VanBuskirk
• The second set had 13 ties and eight lead changes. Arkansas-Fort Smith got out to a 6-2 lead before the Jennies rattled off five straight points to take a 7-6 lead, their first of the set. That didn't last long as UAFS got back to a three-point edge, 15-12 following a UCM error. Still ahead by two, 24-22, the Jennies scored the final four points, helped out by two kills from
Rylee Neigenfind and one from Engelken.Â
• The Lions again opened an early lead, 7-3 before the Jennies came back to tie at 10-all.
Ally Offerdahl landed a pair of service aces during a 5-0 Jennies run. Neither team held more than a three-point lead the rest of the way. Trailing 26-25, the Jens got two kills from
Kylie Hohlen and UAFS attack error to end the match.
