WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Sept. 2, 2018) - It took nearly 105 minutes, but the No. 1 ranked Central Missouri Jennies Soccer team got a 3-2 win in double overtime against Augustana. The win puts the Jennies at 2-0 this season.
How It Happened
• Central Missouri got on the board first when
Makayla Toth found the back of the net in the 30th minute. A pass from
Jada Scott inside the box, set up Toth for a one-timer high over the keeper's head. Toth nearly got the Jennies a goal earlier in the match, but the goal was negated for offsides.
• The first half ended with the Jennies leading 1-0, but less than a minute into half number two, the Jennies doubled their lead.
Courtney Killian took a pass from
Alex Harms and lifted the ball into the upper left hand corner of the net for a 2-0 Jennies lead.Â
• Ten minutes later, the Jennies had a chance to go up 3-0 when Scott was fouled in the box. Her penalty kick though went wide right.
• Less than three minutes after the penalty kick, Augustana scored their first goal. Julie Plonsky intercepted a pass from goalkeeper
Jordyn Atagi and made a move around her to score into an empty net.
• With momentum on their side, the Vikings tied the game four minutes later in the 62nd minute when Alexis Legg maintained possession around some Jennies defenders and fired one from 15 yards out into the net.
• The Jennies got two shots in the final 3:15, but couldn't come up with the game-winner.
• UCM dominated the first overtime with four shots and had a big lead in possession. Augustana was up to the task and didn't allow anything past the keeper.
• The second OT was much the same with UCM controlling play. With Scott dribbling towards the net, the goalkeeper came out high to meet her and Scott was able to get enough on a shot as she was falling down to put it into the vacated goal for the win.
• UCM had a 20-13 advantage in shots.
• The Vikings took seven corner kicks while the Jens had six.
• Most fouls occurred in the second half with Augie committing 11 and the Jennies eight.
