Walkoffs, Shutouts and Senior Day

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (April 17, 2018) - It was Senior Day for Central Missouri Jennies Softball Tuesday in Warrensburg and the Jennies sent their five seniors off with a sweep of Central Oklahoma. The sweep puts UCM at 27-19 and 16-6 in the MIAA. 

Game One - Central Missouri 4, Central Oklahoma 3 - 8 innings
Play-by-Play

• The Bronchos threatened and scored in the second inning. They took a 1-0 lead when Bailey Thompson was hit in the back with an Alexa Bradley pitch. Bradley got a ground ball to end the inning and leave the bases loaded.
• It didn't take long for UCM to respond. In the bottom half of the inning Hailey Crabtree got on a base with a one out double that just skipped over the bag at third base. Kaitlyn Markin was moved up in the batting order and it paid off. In her very first at bat, Markin gave the Jens the lead, 2-1, with a long home run to left center.  
• Bradley and Broncho pitcher Jayden Chestnut put up zeroes until the sixth. JoBi Heath started the inning with a single up the middle and was bunted over to second base. With Katie Giacone now in the circle, the Bronchos tied the game with a two-out single from Carli Jones.
• For the third time in the last seven games, seven innings we're enough to decide a winner and we went to extra innings. Just two pitches into the eighth, the Bronchos regained the lead as Allie Eicher deposited a 1-0 pitch to right center and UCO was up 3-2. 
• Down a run, Emily King went the other way with one out and singled through the right side of the infield. Brenlyn McCoy pinch ran and moved up to second on a passed ball. Two batters later, Crabtree tied the game with an RBI single to right, and moving as the flex position to pinch run, Giacone scored the winning run on a UCO wild pitch.

Jennies Stat Leaders
Hailey Crabtree picked up three hits in the game finishing 3-4 with a run and an RBI.
Kaitlyn Markin drove in two runs with a home run.
Payton Summers reached base three times with a single and two walks.
Emily King, Alexis Koop and Courtni Smith all singled.
Alexa Bradley pitched the first 5.1 innings. She gave up two runs (one earned) on six hits with a strikeout.
Katie Giacone earned the win pitching 2.2 innings and allowing a run on three hits with five strikeouts.

For the Bronchos
• Morgan Heard and Tori Ritz each finished 2-4. Ritz also scored a run.
• JoBi Heath and Allie Eicher each had a hit and a run.
• Bailey Thompson and Carli Jones each had a hit and drove in a run.
• Jayden Chestnut pitched all 7.1 innings. She gave up four runs on eight his with two walks and two strikeouts. 

Game Two - Central Missouri 5, Central Oklahoma 0
Play-by-Play

• It may have been senior day, but it was freshman who had the best day of all. Pitcher Sarah Brown kept the Bronchos off the board all of game two for a three-hit shutout.
• The Jennies gave her some support with runs in the second, third and fourth innings. It started with two outs in the second. Alexis Koop kept the inning alive with an infield single. Three pitches later Allie Dishinger got a hold of one and hit a line drive over the centerfield fence for a two-run home run.
• UCM got the first two batters on in the third and added a run on Payton Summers' sacrifice fly.Kaitlyn Markininal two runs came an inning later. Koop's bunt single moved Kaitlyn Markin, who singled and stole a base to third. Markin made it all the way home when Broncho pitcher Peyton Walker overthrew first base attempting to throw Koop out. Koop scored the Jennies fifth run later in the inning on an RBI single from Taylor Dames.

Jennies Stat Leaders
• Brown pitched all seven innings and gave uKaitlyn Markinits with two walks and four strikeouts.
Taylor Dames, Kaitlyn Markin and Alexis Koop each had two hits. Koop also scored twice while Dames drove in a run.
Allie Dishinger knocked her second home run of the season. She finished 1-3 with a run and two RBI.
Emily King and Courtni Smith also had a hit in the win.

For the Bronchos
• Lexy Dobson, JoBi Heath and Tori Ritz had the Bronchos only hits, all singles.
• Lauren Gibson came out of the bullpen to throw three scoreless innings giving up three hits.
• Peyton Walker allowed all five runs on six hits with a walk and a strikeout.

News and Notes
• The Jennies 16 MIAA wins match the fifth most in team history with four games left to play. They had 17 last year.
• UCM has clinched their fifth straight winning season.
• Central Missouri now has seven walk-off wins this season after their game one win. They are 6-0 in extra innings, all of which have gone just eight innings.
• The Jennies went 13-1 at home this season, their second straight season with 13 home wins. They are 26-4 over the last two years at home.
• This was the Jennies first sweep of Central Oklahoma since they entered the MIAA in 2013, and their first sweep under Coach Anderson.

Up Next
• The Jennies wrap up the regular season this weekend with a pair of doubleheaders. They'll take on Lincoln and Lindenwood Friday and Saturday, April 20-21.
