Jennies Basketball Wins 16th Straight in Victory Over Northeastern

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Feb.  3, 2018) – Central Missouri women's basketball never trailed against the Northeastern State RiverHawks Saturday afternoon, as they won the contest 69-53. The victory was the Jennies 16th straight win to improve their record to 19-1 overall and 13-0 in the MIAA.

How It Happened
• The Jennies and RiverHawks had almost the same shooting percentage, but UCM's 39.3% bested NSU's 38.9%. Northeastern was 7-20 from 3-point range, while Central Missouri was 7-23.
• Central Missouri forced 15 Northeastern turnovers in the game, which lead to 18 points for the Jennies.
• The Jennies won the battle of the boards, as they grabbed 41 total rebounds and 14 on offense. Those second chance opportunities led to UCM scoring 14 points.
• UCM got off to a fast start, scoring the first nine points. A strong defense held the RiverHawks to just three made baskets in the first quarter, making the score 18-7.
• Northeastern hit back-to-back threes towards the end of the second period to help their team stay in the game. However, Paige Redmond had nine points in the quarter to add to the Jennies lead. At halftime, Central Missouri led by 10 points, 32-22.
• The RiverHawks carried their momentum from the end of the first half into the start of the second. NSU put together a quick 8-1 scoring run to cut UCM's lead to three, 33-30. The game quickly got away from the RiverHawks when the Jennies answered with a scoring run of their own. The Jens scored 10 straight that began with a made free throw from Sydney Crockett.
•  Frustration by the RiverHawks resulted in a called technical foul. Central Missouri was 11-15 from the charity stripe in the third quarter alone. At the end of the third, Central Missouri led 50-38.
• Three triples by the Jennies in the last 6:21 of the game helped seal the deal. Redmond, Crockett, and Megan Skaggs all made a shot from behind the arc to put the game out of reach.

It Was Over When...
Megan Skaggs had three 3-pointers in the game, but her biggest one of the day was the one she hit in the third period. Crockett had just nailed a free throw to halt the RiverHawks scoring run and put the Jennies up 34-30. Skaggs drained a 3-pointer with 4:57 left in the third quarter to spark an offense that would score six more continuous points and regain a double digit lead that they would maintain for the remainder of the game.
