Jennies Split On Final Day in Emporia

EMPORIA, Kan. (Feb. 19, 2018) - Central Missouri Jennies Softball walked-off with a win in their first game Sunday afternoon in Emporia. The Jens couldn't keep up the momentum in game though, dropping the night cap. UCM now stands at 5-9 on the season.

Game One - Central Missouri 2, Illinois- Springfield 1 - 8 innings
Play-by-Play

• Both teams got on the board in the opening inning. A two-out RBI single plated a run for the Prairie Stars. UCM tied it on an Allie Dishinger sacrifice fly to score Makayla Schoonover.
• After that, the pitcher's took over. Neither team scored for the next six innings.
• Illinois-Springfield had a great chance to score in the fifth. They led off the inning with a double and, with two outs, loaded the bases. But relief pitcher Katie Giacone got a fly out to right to keep the game tied.
• Because it was a non-conference game, the international tie-breaker rule was in effect starting in the eighth. The Prairie Stars got a runner to third with one out, but back-to-back line drives on the infield ended the threat.
• The Jennies were set up in the eighth with runners on first and third after Schoonover led off the inning with a single. A fielder's choice though erased the runner on third and UCM was left with runners on first and second with one out.
• After a strikeout and a fielding error loaded the bases with two out, Payton Summers came through with an RBI single to win the game for the Jennies.

Jennies Stat Leaders
• Not many hits for either team as the pitcher's dominated. Sarah Brown got the start for UCM and tossed 4.2 innings giving up a run on five hits with three strikeouts.
• Giacone got her first win of the season throwing 3.1 hitless innings with a strikeout.
• Schoonover and Alexis Koop each knocked a pair of hits. Schoonover also scored both runs for the Jens and stole a base.
• Dishinger and Summers each had a hit and and RBI..

For the Prairie Stars
• Ali Haesele threw all 7.2 innings for Illinois-Springfield. She gave up two unearned runs on six hits with two walks and five strikeouts.
• Call Wickenhauser went 1-4 with a hit and an RBI.
• Madi Torry scored the lone run for UIS.

Game Two - William Jewell 5, Central Missouri 0
Play-by-Play

• William Jewell scored a run in the first without the benefit of a hit. The Cardinals drew four walks to score the first run of the game.
• WJC added a run an inning later after three straight two-out singles.
• Central Missouri got runners on base, but couldn't bring them around. The Jennies left at least one runner on base in six of seven innings.
• The Cardinals broke it open in the fifth, again doing all their damage with two outs. After a ground out and a fly out, the next two Cardinals were hit by a pitch and Phoebe Dabbour made the Jennies pay with a three-run home run, making the score 5-0.

Jennies Stat Leaders
• The Jennies mustered just two hits, one apiece from Dishinger and Summers.
• Despite just two hits, the Jennies stole three bases getting one from Lauryn Deer, Courtni Smith and Taylor Dames.
• Jordan Johnson started and allowed all five runs in 4.2 innings with four walks and three strikeouts.
• Alexa Bradley threw 2.1 perfect innings with a strikeout.

For the Cardinals
• Maddie Greenstreet threw all seven innings, giving up just two hits and striking out nine.
• Dabbour drove in four of the five Cardinal runs going 1-2 with a home run and a walk.
• Brooke Bernard was 1-3 with a walk, RBI and a stolen base.

News and Notes
• Three of the Jennies five wins have been in walk-off fashion.
• In all four games this weekend, the Jennies allowed a first inning run.
• Giacone and Bradley combined for 5.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
• Payton Summers and Allie Dishinger were the only Jennies with a hit in each game.
