WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Feb. 17, 2018) - Central Missouri brought the lumber in their doubleheader sweep of Winona State. The Mules scored 12 runs in each game and totaled 35 hits for the afternoon. UCM, now 5-2 and winners of four straight, scored 12 runs in each game, going on to wins of 12-6 and 12-2.
Game One - Central Missouri 12, Winona State 6
Play-by-Play
• Winona State got on the board first, picking up a pair of runs in the first inning off of Mules starter
Ben Kelsch. An RBI groundout and a two out single plated the runs.
• It didn't take long for UCM to answer, putting up three in the second innings. Four straight singles, all with two outs, produced three runs.
Harrison Schnurbusch,
Mason Janvrin and
Erik Webb all picked up an RBI.
• Kelsch settled down after that and didn't allow another hit for the rest of his five innings pitched.
• The Mules exploded for seven runs in the fourth. They sent 11 batters to the plate and eight knocked a base-hit. Webb and
Payne McCutcheon each had a two-RBI double in the inning.
• UCM wasn't done there, in particular,
Erik Webb. He drove in RBI numbers four and five with a home run to right and UCM led 12-2.
• Winona State picked up four runs in the seventh, but it was much too little and UCM won game one, 12-6.
Mules Stat Leaders
• With 16 hits, it was hard to find someone in the lineup who didn't have a good day. Webb finished 3-4 with a double, home run and five RBI.
• Janvrin, McCutcheon and Schnurbusch all picked up two RBI. Schnurbusch also collected three hits and Janvrin stole a base and scored twice.
• Eight of the nine Mules starters had at least one hit and all nine scored at least one run.
• Kelsch improved to 2-0 with the win. He pitched five innings, giving up two runs, none earned, on just one hit with four strikeouts.
For the Warriors
• Sam Kohnle drove in three runs and was 1-3.
• Taylor Field finished 1-4 and picked up two RBI.
• Chad Herbst had the only other hit for WSU.
• Brett Herber got the start and went 3.1 innings, surrendering 10 hits and seven runs, five earned.
Game Two - Central Missouri 12, Winona State 2 - 8 innings
Play-by-Play
• For the second straight game the Warriors got off to a hot start, scoring a run in the first. They led off the game with a solo home run to center from Zac Stange.
• UCM tied things in the second when
Justin Graff-Rowe dashed towards the plate with a straight steal of home, and took the lead for good an inning later as
Travis Able tripled home the go-ahead run, and
Collin Nevil plated Able one batter later.
• With a 3-1 lead, the Mules played some long ball the rest of the afternoon. Nevil got it started with a two-run home run in the fifth. An inning later, Schnurbusch made it 6-1 with a solo shot.
• After a WSU double made it a 6-2 game, Nevil came through again with his second home run of the day, another two-run shot making it 8-2.
• In the eight,
Dalton Dull scored two more with his first career home run, and an Able single and Graff-Rowe double down the left field line gave the Mules a 10-run, 12-2 win in eight innings.
Mule Stat Leaders
• Central Missouri did even better in game two than game one, totaling 19 hits. Able and Nevil each had four. Nevil's two home runs helped him to reach five RBI for the game.
• Graff-Rowe went 3-5 with a run scored and an RBI.
• Dull picked up three hits as well. He also scored a run and drove in two.
• Schnurbusch scored twice and went 2-4 at the plate.

Collin Jones was lights out after the lead off home run. He pitched six innings giving up just the one earned run on five hits with six strikeouts.

Luke Lucas pitched two innings in relief and gave up on run on two hits with a strikeout.
For the Warriors
• Zac Stange and Derek Martin each had two hits and an RBI.
• Kipp Youngquist went 1-3 with a run scored.
• Caleb Schoenholz last five innings, giving up five runs on nine hits with a walk and a strikeout.
News and Notes
• Central Missouri has now won four straight games after sweeping doubleheaders with the Warriors and Colorado-Colorado Springs in back-to-back weeks.
• The Mules 19 hits are the most since a 13-1 win at Southwest Baptist back on April 11, 2017.
• UCM starters combined to go 11 innings and allowed just three runs, one earned, while striking out 10.
• At the bottom of the order, Schnurbush and Dull combined to go 9-14 from the 8-9 spots in the lineup with seven runs and five RBI in the two games.
• The Mules stole eight bases, including two from
Mason Janvrin who leads the MIAA with six.
