Two Grapplers Place as Mules Finish Sixth at MIAA Championships

WICHITA, Kan. (Feb. 11,2018)-- Juniors Daide Agnew and Shea Conley both placed in the top five of their respective weight classes to lead Mules Wrestling at the MIAA Championships on Sunday afternoon. As a team, Central Missouri finished sixth in the team standings.

Agnew went 2-2 at 133 pounds for the Mules to place fourth on the day. Conley was third at 157 pounds with a 2-1 record.

Agnew won his first match with a 12-6 decision over Dy'Juan Carney of Fort Hays State to advance to the semifinals. He then was pinned by Hunter Haralson of Lindenwood in 4:18. He bounced back in the consolation semifinals scoring a 8-3 decision over Vincent Eremita of Newman. In the third place match, Agnew battled Blake Dauphin of Central Oklahoma. It was a hard fought match, but Agnew fell via an 8-2 decision to place fourth for UCM.

Conley's first match was spirited one that came down to one point. He fell 8-7 to Tyler Mies of Newman. He moved over the consolation bracket and received a bye into the semifinals. Conley then picked up a win by medical forfeit over Ryne Cokeley of Fort Hays State. Conley's opponent in the third place match was from Central Oklahoma. He took on Bryan Dutton in what was a low scoring affair. The match was decided by one point, this time in favor of Conley, as he scored a 3-2 decision to finish third.

Allan Person and Tyler Selemaea each picked up a win for the Mules via decision and were just one match outside of placing. Person scored a 4-2 decision over Sam Pennington of LIndenwood in his first match before dropping his next two. Selemaea scored his win at 184 pounds with a 3-2 decision over Jordan Davis in his second match of the day.

The Mules will not be back on the mats until Feb. 23-24 when they are in St. Cloud, Minn. for the NCAA Central Super Regional. Action gets started at 10 a.m. on the first day and at 11 a.m. on the second day.
