WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Feb. 10, 2018) - Central Missouri scored 50 second-half points en route to a 17-point win at Missouri Southern, 80-63. The win gives the Jennies 20 on the season and puts them at 14-1 in the MIAA.
How it Happened
• It was very tight at the start and through the beginning of the second half. The game saw seven lead changes and three ties.
• Central Missouri had a lot of success inside and shot 52% for the game and were 28-43 (65%) from inside the arc. The Lions shot just 35%.
• In the paint is where UCM had a big advantage. Not only did they outrebound the Lions, 40-26, they scored 44 points in the paint, to the Lions 26 and had 19 second chance points.
• Missouri Southern only dressed and played seven while UCM went to it's bench playing 10. The UCM bench scored 18 points while all 63 Lion points came from starters.
• The free throw line kept the Lions in the game. They were 22-24 at the line while the Jennies only took 13 attempts, hitting nine.
• So often we see the Jennies race out on teams to start a game, but this time it was Missouri Southern who scored the first six points. And after a Jenson Maydew three, Missouri Southern led 9-4, just over three minutes into the game.
• Central Missouri took their first lead, 14-12, late in the first quarter on a
Paige Redmond layup with 1:39 to play, capping off a 6-0 run.
• The two teams traded the lead for a bit in the second quarter. A 7-0 Jennies run in the span of two minutes put UCM on top 26-20. They kept that lead for the remainder of the half, but MSSU chipped away and a pair of
Megan Skaggs free throws gave the Jens a 30-27 lead at the break.
• Missouri Southern got off to a hot start once again in the second half and a 10-5 run gave the Lions the lead back, 37-35.
• Immediately following is when the Jennies took over. They scored eight straight, all coming from
Morgan Fleming.
• Just minutes later, Redmond capped off another 8-0 run and the Jennies were up double-digits 54-42.
• UCM took a 59-47 lead into the fourth quarter and led by 10+ the rest of the way.
It Was Over When...
• After
Morgan Fleming gave the Jennies the lead in the third with an 8-0 run all on her own, the Jennies recorded their second 8-0 run of the quarter, getting four points from Redmond and two each from Fleming and
Peyton Taylor. The stretch gave the Jennies a 12 point lead, and the Lions could never get back to within 10.
