Five Jens in Double-Figures in Win Over USI

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Dec. 18, 2018) - Central Missouri built a 16 point lead the fourth quarter, only to see that fall all the way to down to one, but they were able to hang on for a 74-71 victory over Southern Indiana in their final game of the 2018 calendar year. The win puts the Jens at 8-2 this season.

How it Happened
• After taking the lead in the first quarter, the Jennies led for 34:41 of the game. UCM shot 43.4%, 23-53 while Southern Indiana was 29-67, 43.3%.
• Central Missouri did damage from beyond the arc, knocking in 10 three-pointers. The Screaming Eagles did their damage in the paint with a 40-22 advantage.
• Both teams turned the ball over, the Eagles 20 times, the Jennies 18. UCM turned those 20 turnovers in 20 points.
• Southern Indiana had the rebounding edge 41-33 while 16 offensive boards.
• 72 of the Jennies 74 points came from their starters while USI scored 25 bench points.
• Southern Indiana grabbed an early lead, 11-7 when the Jennies made a run to grab the lead. Six straight, capped by a Megan Skaggs three, her first of four, gave UCM a 13-11 lead. 
• A three from Crockett with under a minute left brought the lead to 11, 22-11. The Screaming Eagles knocked a three on their final possession and after 10 minutes it was 22-14.
• Less than four minutes into the second, the Eagles took the lead back, 26-25, to end a 15-3 scoring run. But Skaggs with a three was there to answer again, and the Jennies led the rest of the way. The game stayed at two possessions the rest of the half and UCM went into the break up four, 36-32.
• The Jennies really built their lead in the third and needed every last point. They outscored USI 22-11 and hit four three-pointers in the frame, three from Paige Redmond. She scored eight of UCM's first nine points in the frame, pushing the Jens lead to eight. In the final minute, Sydney Crockett worked her way into the lane for a three-point play in the final minute and UCM had a 15 point lead, 58-43 heading to the fourth.
• With 8:36 left in the game, Morgan Fleming's three gave the Jens their largest lead, 63-47. That's when the Screaming Eagles started their comeback.
• Still up seven with 1:24 left after a pair of free throws from Redmond, the Eagles got a layup and a four-point play in 35 seconds bringing the lead back to one, 72-71.
• On the Jens final possession, Kim Crown grabbed and offensive rebound and was fouled. She sank both at the line, putting the Jens up three, 74-71 with seven seconds left. A desperation three at the buzzer was blocked by Redmond as the Jens hung on for the win.

It Was Over When...
• If you thought it was over early, you were in for a surprise with the Eagles fourth quarter comeback. The Eagles had to go the length of the court in seven seconds trailing by three. The Jens played tight defense and USI got off a desperation three that was blocked by Redmond to preserve the win.

Jennies Stat Leaders
• Redmond led the Jennies scoring 18 points, 15 in the second half. She made three three-pointers, dished out five assists and grabbed four rebounds. She also blocked two shots.
• Megan Skaggs scored 16 with four three-pointers, five rebounds and three steals.
• Morgan Fleming added 14 with seven rebounds.
• Kim Crown scored 13 and also had seven rebounds. She knocked in all four free throw attempts in the final 1:34. She blocked a team-high four shots.
• Sydney Crockett chipped in 11 points with a pair of threes.

For the Screaming Eagles
• Alex Davidson scored a game-high 19 points with six rebounds.
• Ashlynn Brown and Ashley Johnson each scored nine.
• Kacy Eschweiler was 4-8 for eight points with three rebounds.

News and Notes
• The Jennies nine blocked shots were a season-high. Crowns four were an individual high.
• Sydney Crockett reached 600 career points and Morgan Fleming 700.
• Paige Redmond moved into 13th place all-time at UCM with 1,382 points.
• Megan Skaggs fouled out of the game. The first Jennie to foul out of a game since the 2016-17 season.
• The Jennies win over USI puts them at 2-2 all-time against the Screaming Eagles. They last played in 2007.

• It's a long break for the Jennies. They'll next play Thursday, Jan. 3 as they resume MIAA action against Fort Hays State.
