Erick Vargas is leading the way with 5.0 points
Jesse Reser follows with 1.0, and
Dominique Hampton added 0.5. The Mules compiled 6.5 points for the day and are sitting in 35th place overall.
Erick Vargas is the top scorer for the Mules at the end of day one with 5.0 points. Vargas fell in his first match of the day by a decision to Blake Glogouski (Lake Erie College). But Vargas came back strong in consolation bracket defeating Chris Sharp (Marian University (IN)) by fall (Fall 5:52). Vargas won his second straight by fall when he took down Austin Neal (Newberry) 6-8 (Fall 2:13). Vargas then fell in his final match of the day to Ethan Cota (Augustana (SD)) by a 9-4 decision.
Jesse Reser (1.0) and
Dominique Hampton (0.5) also had notable performances for the Mules. Resser was able to defeat Hunter Mullin (Western Colorado) by decision 8-5. Before medically forfeiting his two remaining matches.
Hampton fell in his first match in the prelims, but came back and won two back to back. He defeated Jordan Dieringer (Ouachita Baptist University) by decision 11-4 in the prelims, before taking down Seth Bell (Emmanuel) by decision 10-8 in the consolation round. Hampton fell in his final match of the night by a technical fall to Colton Clingenpeel (Lindenwood (Mo.).
