INDIANOLA, Iowa (Dec. 1, 2018) - Central Missouri Mules Wrestling picked back up this weekend at the Luther Hill Invitational in Indianola, Iowa hosted by Simpson College. The Mules scored 42.5 team points to place eighth and recorded five place-winners.
UCM had two wrestle at 125 pounds,
Erick Vargas and
Justin Mitchell. Vargas went 0-2 losing by fall in 2:54 in his opening bout, and then by decision, 4-3 in the consolation bracket. Mitchell went 1-2 with a win by decision, 9-8, in the consolation bracket.Â
Daide Agnew came back through the consolation bracket to take a fifth place finish. After losing by fall in 32 seconds in his opening bout, Agnew picked up four straight wins with two falls and three decisions. His first fall win came right at the end of the second round, as was scored at 5:00. His next came at the beginning of round three with a recorded time of 5:09. In the fifth place match, Agnew scored a 12-7 decision over Gad Huseman of Iowa Western.
Austin Morgan made it to the seventh place match at 157 pounds and took eighth place. He won in a tiebreaker, 4-3, over Michael Abeyta of Augsburg in the second round of the championship bracket to qualify for the quarterfinals. Tiebreakers were again needed in the quarterfinal round, but this time went against Morgan who lost 2-1. Morgan won his first match in the consolation bracket, a 10-7 decision over Conner Greig, but fell by major decision in the consolation semifinals and a DFF in the seventh place match earned him eighth place.Â
The Mules had another two wrestling at 184 pounds
Martin Brunnert's only win came by fall in 4:54 in the second round of the consolation bracket over Alberto Alcala of Waldorf.
Dominique Hampton lost his first match, a tight 7-6 decision and came back through the consolation bracket to get into the seventh place match. Hampton won two straight, an 11-5 decision over Truman State's Vin Kriegshauser and a 10-1 major decision over Dylan Lentz of Augsburg to make the semifinals of the consolation bracket, before falling in a 12-1 major decision.
Ben Lancaster picked up a win at the end of round two in his second bout of the afternoon, defeating James Schafer of Benedictine in 4:55 for his only win.
The top performer for UCM was
Chase Miller who earned a third place finish. Miller made the semifinals with a 50 second fall in round two and a 2-1 decision in the quarterfinals. He lost a 5-1 decision to Shawn Beeson of Graceland in the semifinals, but rebounded with a 6-4 decision over Jordan Baumler of Upper Iowa in the third place match.
Central Missouri is off until next week when they'll have their home opener. UCM will host Lindenwood next Sunday, Dec. 9 at 5 p.m. for their first MIAAÂ dual match of the season.
