Jennies Soccer Set To Play Opening Round of NCAA Tournament This Weekend

 WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Nov. 8, 2018) - Central Missouri Jennies Soccer will head to Minnesota to kick-off the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Jennies are making their ninth straight NCAA Tournament appearance and their 12th appearance overall.

Opponent: Augustana (SD) - 12-3-3, 10-3-2 NSIC

Where: Bemidji, Minnesota 

When: Friday, Nov. 9, 2018 - 11 a.m.

Kickoff
• The Jennies are coming off of a loss in the MIAA Conference Tournament in Edmond, Ok. against Central Oklahoma.
• Heading into Central Region Tournament the Jennies were seeded No. 3 and will head to Bemidji Minnesota to take on the No. 6 seeded Augustana. 
• The Jennies entered the 2018 season ranked No. 1 in the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll (formerly National Soccer Coaches Association of America). UCM is coming off its eighth straight MIAA Regular Season championship, fourth MIAA Tournament championship, fourth straight Central Region crown, and a 2017 NCAA D2 National Championship Title.

Series History
•UCM leads all-time 5-0-0
•The Jennies and the Vikings met twice in the 2017 season. The Jennies shutout the Vikings both meetings. On the road, they defeated them 5-0 and then defeated them at Jennies Field 3-0.
•In their only meeting this season the Jennies and the Vikings went in to double overtime, but the Jennies came out on top 3-2.

Scouting the Opposition
Augustana Vikings
• The Vikings defeated Winona State 4-1 in the quarterfinal round of the NSIC Conference Tournament and advanced to the semifinals. The Vikings were also ranked No. 6 in the final set of Central Region Rankings released by the NCAA.
• The Vikings fell to Minnesota State defeated Northeastern State in the semifinal round of the NSIC Tournament 0-3.
• The Vikings are led by freshman mid-fielder Alexis Legg, who has 10 goals on the season, one assist, 32 shots, and 21 points thus far. Senior defender Rebekah Thoresen is a player to watch with five goals, one assist and 25 shots on the season. The Vikings goalkeeper redshirt-freshman Claudia Pueschner has 123 saves on the season.
• As a team, the Vikings have scored 33 goals thus far on the season. 
• Head Coach Brandon Barkus has been at Augustana since 2006 and has a record of 127-88-24. 
• Central Missouri leads Augustana 5-0-0 all-time.
