Jennies Survive Conference Opener in Bolivar

BOLIVAR, Mo. (Nov. 29, 2018) – Central Missouri Jennies Basketball took their show on the road for their conference opener, picking up a win, 72-66 in a hard-fought battle with Southwest Bearcats. The win puts the Jennies at 6-1 and 1-0 in the league.

How it Happened
• It wasn't a pretty win for the Jens who shot just 40% (24-60) and 29% (9-31) from three. The Bearcats outshot them from the field, but were just 4-16 from three.
• The Jennies had a slim edge on the glass, 42-41, but 20 of those were offensive boards that led to 14 second chance points.
• UCM forced 19 SBU turnovers and turned those into 15 points. They've now won the turnover battle in all 6 games.
• It didn't have to be as close as itw as, but the Jennies struggled at the free throw line, making just 15 of 28 attempts. 
• The Jennies started out hot and a Megan Skaggs three made it 9-4 early on.
• The Bearcats answered with a 10-0 run and took a 14-9 lead, their largest of the game.
Emilie Jobst hit a three in the closing seconds of the quarter and it was 14-13 SBU after 10 minutes.
• The game remained tight for the remainder of the half but the Bearcats led the entirety and took a 31-29 lead into the half.
• A pair of Morgan Fleming three-pointers gave the Jennies leads. She hit her second to make it a 38-35 lead and the Jennies never trailed again.
• SBU closed the third on a 9-4 run to keep things tied at 53 with 10 minutes left to play. The Jennies were 4-6 from three in the period.
• With the game still knotted at 60, the Jens opened things up with a 7-0 run, getting a three from Sydney Crockett with 5:34 left.
• SBU answered with six straight, making it a one-point game, 67-66. That was the last time they scored though, going scoreless over the final 3:09. Morgan Fleming made a jumper and Paige Redmond sank two free throws in the closing seconds to get us to our final.

It Was Over When…
• Leading by two, with less than a minute remaining, Morgan Fleming found some room at the elbow and made it a two-possession, 70-66 game sinking an 18-footer with 43 seconds left.

Jennies Stat Leaders
Morgan Fleming finished with a game-high 17 points on 6-12 shooting.
Megan Skaggs picked up a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Paige Redmond collected nine points with four free throws.
Sydney Crockett scored eight with a pair of three-pointers.
Morgan VanHyfte filled the box score with nine points, five rebounds, three blocks and two steals.
Kim Crown chipped in six points and seven boards.

For the Bearcats
• Morgan Henderson led the way scoring 13 and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.
• Bailey Rezabeck came off the bench to score 11.
• RayShee Smith, playing in her first game of the season, scored 10.
• Taliahyah Wilson was 4-4 from the floor for eight points.

News and Notes
• For the first time this season, the Jennies trailed at the half, 31-29.
• Skaggs' double-double was the first for the Jennies this season, and the first 10+ rebound game as well.
• UCM now has four straight wins over the Bearcats and wins in nine of their last 10.
• Skaggs also hit 800 career points in the game and 300 made field goals
Emilie Jobst surpassed 50 career points and has a new career-high in total points.
• The Jennies six blocked shots are a season-high for the team, as are Morgan VanHyfte's three as an individual.

Up next
• With finals week next week, the Jennies will be off for nine days. They'll return to the floor Saturday, Dec. 8 on the road at Washburn.
