Jennies Win Elite Eight Rematch With LCU

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Nov. 24, 2018) - No. 1 Central Missouri Jennies Basketball fought through some tired legs to prevail 67-62 over No. 10 Lubbock Christian in a rematch of last year's Elite Eight game. Despite starting about 17 hours after last night's double-overtime game ended, the Jens had a gritty performance to avoid a two-game losing streak and move to 5-1 this season.

How it Happened
• For the second straight day, the Jennies did damage from behind the arc making 11 three-pointers and shooting 45.8% from three. The Jens were just 41.2% for the game, but outshot LCU who were just 18-of-49 for 36.7%.
• The Jens started and ended strong as the first and fourth quarters were the only ones in which the Jennies scored at least 20 points.
• Central Missouri led for 34 minutes of game action and there were four ties and nine lead changes, most in the first quarter.
• UCM won the rebounding battle 35-31 and outscored LCU 18-12 in the paint.
• Central Missouri also committed just 11 turnovers while forcing 16 from the Lady Chaps. UCM turned those 16 turnovers into 13 points.
• Both teams started off incredibly hot as less than 2:15 into the game, it was all knotted up at 11. Both teams hit three three-pointers in that frame in what looked like was going to be another high-scoring affair.
• Things slowed down though and with 2:06 left in the frame, Morgan Fleming's free throw gave UCM their largest lead, 20-16. The Jennies though didn't score the rest of the of the quarter and Lubbock hit a three with less than five seconds left to make it a one-point game, 20-19 after one.
• The Jennies held LCU to just nine second quarter points and two made field goals, but struggled from the floor themselves. The Jens scored just 13 points and were only able to extend their lead to five, 33-28, at the break when Paige Redmond hit the final basket of the half, a three with 1:28 to play.
• The third quarter was split nearly right down the middle. The Jennies opened the half on an 11-4 run to take their largest lead, 44-32, when Megan Skaggs buried a three and forced a Lubbock timeout.
• After the timeout though, the Jennies scored just two points in the final 5:51 as the Lady Chaps came roaring back to get within two, 46-44, thanks to a 12-2 run of their own.
• While momentum was certainly favoring LCU, that didn't bother the Jennies who held onto the lead for the entire fourth quarter. After Lubbock brought the lead to one, 48-47, Redmond was right there to answer with a three on the Jennies next possession.
• Redmond then pushed it to five, and after an LCU layup, Skaggs made it six with a three with 7:05 left.
• Lubbock brought it back to two, 58-56, but Sydney Crockett got a big offensive rebound and Kim Crown finished with a layup making it a two possession game again, 60-56, with 3:06 left and the lead never got under four the rest of the way.

It was Over When...
• The Jens led by four, 64-60, with under a minute left to play and LCU ball. With the shot clock winding down, Megan Skaggs came up with a big steal and then calmly hit two free throws to put the game away.

Jennies Stat Leaders
• Megan Skaggs led the Jennies in scoring with a game-high 23. She also grabbed six rebounds, five assists and four steals
• Morgan Fleming finished with 11 points and led the Jens with seven rebounds.
• Paige Redmond scored 17 with five three pointers.
• Kim Crown was also in double-figures with 10 points and blocked two shots.

For the Lady Chaps

• Allie Schulte scored 15 and had five rebounds.
• Caitlyn Cunyus and Maddi Chitsey each scored seven.

• The Jennies held Lubbock Christian to 62 points as well in the NCAA Elite Eight game in March.

• The Jennies held the Lady Chaps to just nine second-quarter points. It's the fourth time in six games UCM has held an opponent to 10 points or fewer in a quarter. The Jennies are 37-2 in the last three seasons in those games and 4-0 this season.
