PITTSBURG, Kan. (Nov. 16, 2018) - No. 1 Central Missouri Jennies Basketball moved to 3-0 on the young season with a 79-64 win over Arkansas Fort Smith in Pittsburg, Kan. Four Jens landed in double-digit points and the Jens pulled away in the third quarter.
How it Happened
• The Jennies outscored the Lions 48-24 in the middle periods of the game to extend their lead.
• Arkansas Fort Smith outshot the Jennies both from the field, 49%-43% and from three, 47%-35%.
• The Jennies had great work on the boards with a 45-25 edge and scored 18 second chance points. Nearly half, 22 of the 45 rebounds were offensive.
• The Jens also got a lot of buckets under the basket scoring 38 points in the paint to the Lions 20.
• Central Missouri was able to take advantage of 25 Lions turnovers to turn those into 19 points.
• It was an ugly start as neither team shot the ball well in the first period. it took until the 2:25 mark for the first team to reach 10 when
Morgan Fleming buried a three. The Lions went on a run though and looked poised to take a 13-10 lead after one, but
Emilie Jobst, from well beyond half court, hit a highlight reel three to tie.
• Jobst gave the team a spark as less than three minutes into the second the Jennies led by as much as seven after a
Sydney Crockett three. A layup from
Morgan VanHyfte pushed the lead to 10, 31-21 and she hit to free throws with 31 seconds left to give the Jens a nine point lead, 33-24 at the break.
• In the third is when the Jens really hit the gas, outscoring the Lions 22-7 in the final eight minutes. In a span of 3:18 near the end of the quarter, the Jennies pushed their lead from 14 to 27 points as Crockett, Redmond and Jobst all hit three pointers. Jobst scored seven points during the spurt herself.
• A layup from Crockett gave the Jennies their largest lead, 73-45 with 7:06 left to play. The Lions scored a few late buckets to cut the lead down, but Jens walked out with a convincing 79-64 win.
It Was Over When...
• At the under five media timeout in the third quarter UCM led by 14, 44-30.
Sydney Crockett hit a three out of the break and UCM was off and running getting the lead to 24 at the end of the quarter and UCM put the game away early.
Jennies Stat Leaders
•
Megan Skaggs led all scorers with 19 points going 8-13 from the floor. She also pulled down nine rebounds, dished out two assists, blocked a shot and came away with a steal.
• Skaggs wasn't the only Jennie to fall a rebound shy of a double-double.
Kim Crown scored 13 and added nine rebounds, six on the offensive glass.
• Syndey Crockett buried three triple and scored 13 points.

Emilie Jobst had a double-digit scoring effort with 10 points.

Morgan VanHyfte,
Paige Redmond,
Morgan Fleming and
Peyton Taylor all scored six points. VanHyfte pulled down six boards while Redmond dished out a game-high five assists.
For the Lions
• Mariah Green scored 15 points on 6-7 shooting and 3-4 from three.
• Ellie Lehne added 12 points.
• Tamera Gulley scored eight and had a team-best five rebounds and two blocks and two steals.
• Alexsis Brown chipped in nine points.
News and Notes
• The Jennies got a little revenge following a 77-76 loss at the hands of the Lions last year. These two teams have met each of the last three years with the Jens now holding a 2-1 advantage.
• The 79 points is the most the Jennies have scored this season.

Emilie Jobst started for the first time in her career. Her 10 points were a career high.
• The nine rebounds from Crown and Skaggs are the most for a Jennies this season.
• With her six points,
Paige Redmond moved into a tie for 17th place all-time at UCM.
• UCM has won the turnover battle in all three games. The Lions 25 are the most by a UCM opponent this season.
• All 14 Jennies that dressed played including
Adria Costley and
Meghan Allen, who saw their first career action as Jennies.
