SPRINGFIELD, Mo (Oct. 29, 2018) - Central Missouri Jennies Basketball picked up right where they left off last season. Starting the 2018-19 year with an exhibition at Division I Missouri State, the Jennies took down the Lady Bears 70-64.
How It Happened
• Last season the Jennies totaled 36 points against the Lady Bears, tonight they scored 35 points in each half.Â
• The Jennies led for nearly 25 minutes worth of the game.
• UCM did damage with the three-ball going 10-for-29 and holding the Lady Bears to just 1-of-9 from deep.
• The Jennies also won the battle on the boards 39-34 and scored 19 second-chance points.
• The game started out just like last year with
Megan Skaggs knocking in a three-pointer on the first shot of the game.Â
• Missouri State came back at the end of the period and held a five-point lead, 25-20.
• Central Missouri didn't make their first shot of the second quarter until 6:40 left in the half, but their defense held them in it. The Jennies came back and outscored MSU 15-6 in the second quarter and led by four at the break, 35-31.
• The Jens led for nearly the entire third quarter until the Lady Bears tied it at 51 with a jumper with 44 seconds left in the period.

Morgan Fleming and
Paige Redmond hit back-to-back three to start the fourth and the Jennies never trailed the rest of the way. MSU tied the game at 64-64 with 1:22 left to play.
Megan Skaggs made a basket to retake the lead with less than a minute to play, and UCM hit three free throws in the final 30 seconds, three from
Gigi McAtee.
It Was Over When...
• Leading by three,
Sydney Crockett went to the free throw with a chance to ice the game and knocked in the second free throw, making it a two-possession game.

Paige Redmond finished with 17 points going 6-12 and 3-8 from three with six assists
•
Megan Skaggs also scored 17 with three triples and five rebounds.

Morgan Fleming scored 12 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

Sydney Crockett chipped in 10 points and
Gigi McAtee six.

Kim Crown grabbed six rebounds and scored three points.
For the Lady Bears
• Alexa Willard scored a game-high 23 points going 11-for-19 from the field.
• Brice Calip added 13 points, seven at the free throw line.
• Emily Gartner grabbed seven boards.
• Danielle Gitzen scored eight points and came away with four steals and three rebounds.
News and Notes
• The Jennies played 11 including two freshmen.
• UCM knocked in 14-of-22 free throws.
• Last year, the Jens fell in this exhibition 62-36 to the Lady Bears.
• The Jennies defense continued it's strong play from last year, holding MSU to just one three-pointer and six points in the second quarter.
