STARKVILLE, Miss. (Nov. 2, 2018) - No. 1 Central Missouri Jennies Basketball finished up their exhibition season taking on Mississippi State, the preseason No. 6 ranked team in Division I. The Jennies put up a fight in the first half, before the Bulldogs pulled away with a 97-56 win.
How it Happened
• The Jennies gave Mississippi State all they could handle in the early going, and even led, 17-13 after the first quarter. The Jennies led for a total of 13:32.
• UCM shot 34.5% from the field while the Bulldogs were up near 60% at 59.2%.
• Rebounds and turnovers played a big factor. Miss. State won the rebounding battle 40-31 and forced UCM into 27 turnovers.
• Most of the Bulldogs damage was done in the paint, with 70 of their 97 points scored under the basket.
• UCM took an early lead less than two minutes into the game when
Kim Crown and
Paige Redmond hit jumpers on consecutive possessions. After a Redmond steal,
Sydney Crockett made it 7-2 with a three-pointer.
• The Jennies led for the rest of the quarter and
Emilie Jobst made it a four-point game with a three-pointer with less than 10 seconds to play.
• A three from
Gigi McAtee brought the lead back to five once again at 24-19, but that's when Mississippi State charged back.
• With 3:49 left in the half, the Bulldogs went back on top, 25-24, and never trailed again.
• Redmond missed a three at the buzzer and the Jennies went into the half down six, 35-29.
• Mississippi State scored 31 points in both the third and fourth quarters as they ran away in the second half and put the Jennies away 97-56.

Megan Skaggs led UCM with 14 points while adding five rebounds.

Morgan Fleming was also in double-figures with 11 points and a team-best seven boards. She also came away with four steals.

Paige Redmond chipped in nine points and three assists.Â

Kim Crown scored six points and pulled down three rebounds.
•
Gigi McAtee and
Emilie Jobst each hit a three-pointer off the bench.
For the Bulldogs
• Anriel Howard scored a game-high 23 points and added 11 rebounds for a double-double.
• Teaira McCowan scored 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting.
• Myah Taylor scored 11 with four assists.
• Chloe Bibby, Jazzmun Holmes and Xaria Wiggins all scored 10 points.
News and Notes
• This was the first time the two teams have met since 1978. The all-time series is now 1-1.
• The Jennies went 1-1 against Division I opponents in exhibitions this season, defeating Missouri State.
