WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Oct. 19, 2018) - Central Missouri Jennies Volleyball prevailed in an exciting match with Missouri Western Friday night at the Multi. The Jennies looked dominant winning the opening set, but the match saw three close sets to finish with UCM coming out on top, 3-1 (25-11, 19-25, 25-20, 25-23). How it Happened
• The Jennies won the hitting percentage battle .204-.133 and landed 58 kills to the Griffons 51.
• Missouri Western hit six more attack errors handed the Jennies five points on service errors.Â
• Both defenses played well each team over 80 digs and an 8-7 advantage for MWSU in blocks.
• It didn't take long in set one for the Jens to exert their dominance. Leading by one, 5-4, the Jennies went on a 15-4 and took a commanding 20-8 lead. UCM didn't need much more offense after that and cruised to a set one win, 25-11. The Jens hit .324 for the set while the Griffons hit just eight kills and had 10 attack errors.
• The Griffons took an early lead in set two and were able to make it hold up. A kill from Rachel Losch made it 4-3 as they went on a 4-0 run to take a 7-3 lead. The Jens kept it close, and got back to one, 13-12, after a kill from
Rylee Neigenfind. But the Griffons scored the next six after that, going up 18-12 and went on to win by that margin, 25-19. Neigenfind had seven kills in the set.
• Set three looked like it was going to be much like the first with UCM jumping out to a 7-2 lead. They went up by as much as seven, 17-10, before the Griffons started to come back. MWSU got to within one, 18-17, and again, 19-18, but the Jennies were able to maintain the lead. The Jennies last three points all came from
Kylie Hohlen kills. She had eight in the set.
• The fourth set was a wild affair with 12 ties and seven lead changes. No team held more than a three-point lead at any point in the set. Missouri Western gained control late with a kill and attack error making it 21-19. They were still up two, 22-20 when a block and attack error retied the set at 22-all.
Hannah Engelken made it a 24-22 game, and at match point,
Kylie Hohlen came up with her 21st kill of the match for a 25-23 set win.
