Career Day for Sydney Skaggs Helps Jennies Over Washburn

TOPEKA, Kan. (Jan. 27, 2018) - Central Missouri Jennies Basketball got contributions from everyone in their 72-63 win over Washburn. The win was their 14th straight and puts Central Missouri at 17-1 and 11-0 in the MIAA.

How It Happened
• The Jennies shot better than 50% for the second straight game, going 29-for-54 from the floor for 53.7%. UCM also hit 9-of-21 from behind the arc and were 5-5 at the free throw line. Washburn shot 38.5% and 28% from three.
• Washburn got the better of the Jennies on the boards, 35-29, and also outscored UCM 32-30 in the paint.
• The Jennies bench provided a big spark scoring 24 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. 
• Both teams got off to a fast start, with Washburn holding an 18-17 lead after the first period.
• The Jennies though took over in the second quarter, out scoring Washburn 22-8 and holding a 39-26 lead at halftime, getting a last second three from Morgan Fleming.
• Leading by just three midway through the second, Sydney Skaggs, on back-to-back possessions, grabbed an offensive rebound and went back up for a layup, pushing the lead to seven, 25-18.
• Washburn made a run in the third quarter, using an 8-0 spurt to cut the lead to just five, 45-40. The Jennies got it right back into double-digits though getting two baskets from Paige Redmond and one from Sydney Skaggs in the final two minutes.
• Central Missouri kept that double-digit lead for more than nine minutes of the fourth quarter and Washburn couldn't get any closer.

It Was Over When...
• It was a day to remember for Sydney Skaggs. With a 10 point lead heading into the fourth, She grabbed another offensive rebound on the Jennies first possession and went scored again on a layup. Two possessions later, Skaggs put the Jens up 12 again, 62-50, this time stepping out for a 12-foot jumper.

Jennies Stat Leaders
• Paige Redmond was the Jennies leading scorer with 15 points on 6-10 shooting and 3-6 from behind the arc. She also dished out a season-high tying six assists. 
• Fleming was also 3-6 from three and scored 13 points and had three rebounds and two assists.
• Sydney Skaggs scored a career-high 12 points on 5-6 shooting. She also pulled down five rebounds, four offensive.
• Megan Skaggs and Kelsey Williams each scored seven points. Skaggs grabbed five rebounds and Williams had four assists.
• Kayonna Lee grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. She also scored six points.
• Jolene Shipps and Sydney Crockett came off the bench to combine for 12 points and five rebounds. Shipps was 3-3 from the field and 2-2 at the free throw line.

For the Ichabods
• Reagan Phelan scored a game-high 19 points. She was 7-19 from the floor and dished out four assists.
• Alexis McAfee was 6-12 and scored 17 points.
• Axelle Bernard recorded a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
• Mackenzie Loe scored seven points and had three rebounds on 3-5 shooting.

News and Notes
• The Jennies are now 20-39 all time against the Ichabods and have won four straight.
• Jolene Shipps reached 100 points this season.
• At 11-0 the Jennies, the Jennies have a 2.5 game lead in the MIAA over second-place Pittsburg State who is 9-3. 
• Paige Redmond went 7-14 from three against Washburn and Emporia State.
