Jennies Stun Hornets in Emporia

EMPORIA, Kan. (Jan. 24, 2018) - Central Missouri Jennies Basketball did something few teams do: They went into Emporia, Kan. and came out with a win. Not only was it a win, but the Jennies never trailed during their 78-61 win. The Jennies win streak continues and now stands at 13 and UCM is 16-1 and 10-0 in the MIAA.

How it Happened
• The Jennies doubled the Lady Hornets in field goal percentage, 52%-25%. Emporia State was just 16-64 from the field and 5-26 from three.
• Central Missouri meanwhile was 27-52 and 5-16 from three, four coming from Paige Redmond.
• Emporia State is one of the better rebounding teams in the MIAA, but UCM won on the glass, 38-36.
• The Lady Hornets got their share of offensive rebounds, 19 in total, but a team that lives on second-chance points was outscored by UCM 11-10.
• Central Missouri scored 34 points in the paint to the Lady Hornets 22. The Jennies defense held Tyra Jones, the leading shooter in the MIAA at 66%, to just 1-11.
• Central Missouri stormed out of the gates, jumping on top of the Lady Hornets 22-9 after one quarter. Emporia State was just 2-21 in the frame and missed their first 10 from the field. 
• The Jennies continued to pour it on in the second quarter and took a 38-20 lead into the break. 
• Emporia State was finally able to find some rhythm in the third quarter, putting up 24 points. The Lady Hornets got back to within 10 on a few occasions, but the Jennies were able to keep the lead in double-figures throughout the second half.
• Twice in the final 1:30 of the third quarter did ESU get to within 10, but Kayonna Lee answered right back with a jumper each time.
• The Jennies kept the lead above 10 for the entirety of the fourth quarter, and the rest was academic.

It Was Over When...
• The Lady Hornets went on a brief 4-0 run in the third, cutting the lead to 10, 46-36. The very next possession, Paige Redmond was there to answer with her fourth three-pointer of the game, bringing the lead back to 13, and draining the life back out of the crowd.

Jennies Stat Leaders
• Paige Redmond scored 20 points for the second straight game, picking up a game-high 21. She also had three assists and three rebounds.
• Morgan Fleming wasn't bothered by a face guard and added 19 on 6-10 shooting. She also shared the team-lead with seven rebounds.
• Kayonna Lee again filled the stat sheet scoring 15 while grabbing seven rebounds, blocking two shots and picking up a steal.
• Great game for Sydney Skaggs off the bench scoring eight points in 14 minutes.
• Kelsey Williams added six points and dished out five assists. 
• Megan Skaggs with a seven and seven, seven points and seven rebounds. She also blocked two shots and had a steal.

For the Lady Hornets
• Emily Miller scored a team-best 13 going 2-6 from three.
• Jessica Wayne scored 10 off the bench.
• Tyra Jones scored seven points, six at the free throw line. She also grabbed seven rebounds.
• Tiana Moala chipped in four points with three blocks.

News and Notes
• Two long ESU streaks came to an end tonight. The Jennies snapped the Lady Hornets 27 game home winning streak, dating back to 2014-15.
• Coupled with their loss on Saturday, it's also the first time ESU has lost back-to-back games in 97 games, going back to 2013-14.
• The win is also the first for a road team in this series in the last nine games.
• Central Missouri held ESU to just nine points in the first quarter. The Jennies are 11-0 this season and 26-1 since last year when an opponents scores fewer than 10 points in a quarter.
• Paige Redmond is now up to 940 career points and needs just 60 to reach 1,000. 
• The Jennies move to 35-41 all-time against ESU.

• The Jennies remain on the road Saturday, Jan. 27 where they'll take on Washburn in Topeka, Kan. with a 1 p.m. tip-off time. The Ichabods are 6-4 in the MIAA after defeating Southwest Baptist tonight.
