Jennies Survive Overtime in St. Joe

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (Jan. 13, 2017) - No. 12 Central Missouri needed overtime to win their ninth straight game, but took care of business, 80-76 over Missouri Western. The Jennies remain unbeaten in the MIAA at 6-0 and are 12-1 overall.

How It Happened
• Early on, it looked like the Jennies might have their way with Missouri Western, similar to the 70-48 win over the Griffons in Warrensburg. UCM led by 10, 16-6 midway through the first quarter.
• Central Missouri struggled in the second quarter, scoring just 10 points and the Griffons mounted a comeback. After the first half, UCM led by just two 29-27.
• For the game, the Jennies shot 49% and were 31% from three.
• The story of the game though was free throws. Central Missouri shot a season-high 38, meanwhile the Griffons just 14. Missouri Western was in foul trouble for a majority of the game with two Griffons fouling out.
• UCM shot 16 free throws in the fourth quarter and hit 13 of them. Redmond, Lee and Fleming each hit four in the final frame.
• The game was tied 13 times and had six lead changes. Missouri Western led by two as late as 1:35 in the game. Redmond tied things up with some free throws. Neither team could score again in the final minute and a half. Megan Skaggs had a good look, but it went off the rim and out.
• Skaggs got the scoring started in the overtime period with a layup and UCM held on the rest of the way. They scored 12 points, seven coming at the free throw line.

It was Over When...
• It took a while in this back and forth affair. Trailing by just two, Missouri Western had possession at half court with just six seconds to play. On the inbounds, Morgan Fleming cut off Brittany Atkins' path to the basket which caused her to travel, giving the ball back to the Jennies, with just one second left.
