Fourth-Ranked Jennies Post Sixth Straight Shutout In Road Win Over Bearcats

MARYVILLE, Mo. (Sept. 17, 2017)-- The fourth-ranked Central Missouri Jennies Soccer team (6-0) won its sixth straight game with a 4-0 shutout over the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats on Sunday afternoon on the road. The Jennies have posted shutouts in all six of their wins this season.

Senior Baylie Edwards led the way for UCM scoring two goals and adding one assist for five points. Redshirt senior Abby Rhodes and freshman Makayla Toth scored on goal apiece to contribute to the offense. In net, senior Ana Dilkes tallied six saves in 17 shots faced as she posted her sixth straight shutout. Dilkes' shutout is also the 49th of her career, which now ranks second most all-time in NCAA Division II history.

Both teams came out strong on offense as the Jennies and Bearcats combined for 10 total shots in the first 20 minutes of action. UCM grabbed the lead in the 22nd minute when Toth scored off a corner assist from Haley Freeman. Toth got free in the box and tapped in the ball to give Jennies the 1-0 lead. Toth's goal is her is her fifth of the season with the assist being Freeman's second of the year.

The Jennies took the 1-0 lead into halftime. In the first period UCM took nine shots, three on goal, while Northwest Missouri had eight with four of them being on goal. The second period was all Jennies as they scored three goals to put the game away.

It did not take long for UCM to go up 2-0 in the second period as Edwards scored her first goal of the game at the 47:38 mark. Edwards played a pass from Jada Scott inside the box and controlled the ball for a shot that played off the post. Scott's assist is her second of the season and the 15th of her career, which tied for seventh most in program history.

The Jennies continued their offensive attack scoring their goal in the 52nd minute. Rhodes played a long pass from Edwards into the box and hit her shot into the net past the goalkeeper's reach. Rhodes now has six goals on the season to lead UCM.

UCM scored its final goal with five seconds left in the game at 89:55 mark. Edwards managed to score off a corner kick and got a header after the Bearcats failed to control the ball inside the box. Edwards' two goals give her three for the season.

For the game, the Jennies had 18 total shots with 10 of them on goal. Defensively, the Jennies gave up 17 total shots, their most of the season, but just six of them were on goal as they posted their sixth straight shutout.

The Jennies are home for their next two games. They face undefeated No. 24 Missouri Western Friday, Sept. 22, at 7 p.m. UCM and Northwest Missouri will meet again Sunday, Sept. 24, only this time it will count as an MIAA match. Kickoff for Sunday's game is set for 1 p.m.
