RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (Sept. 15, 2017) - Central Missouri defeated Alabama-Huntsville and Harding Friday night at the Arkansas Tech Spikefest by scores of 3-0. The Jennies move to 8-3 on the season with one more match in Arkansas.
Game One: Central Missouri 3, Alabama Huntsville 0 (33-31, 25-20, 25-11)
Three Jennies landed 10+ kills in the 3-0 win over the Chargers.
Audrey Fisher led the way knocking down 14 while
Kasey Hohlen added 12 and
Rylee Neigenfind added 10, a career-best.
Ally Offerdahl passed out 34 assists and
Kylie Hohlen set a new career-high on defense with 36 digs.
Set one was one of the longest in Jennies history. The Jennies won by a score of 33-31, the most points in a Jennies set win since 2005. Central Missouri opened up a 13-8 lead, but the Chargers stormed back to get to within one, 14-13. The teams continued to trade points and the Chargers got to set-point six different times with the Jennies not giving in. UCM finally got back-to-back points on a Charger attack error and Neigenfind finally ended the marathon set with a kill.
The two teams battled again in set two. Alabama-Huntsville led as late as 15-14, but four straight Jennies points put UCM ahead for good. The Jens reclaimed the lead three kills from
Kasey Hohlen and an ace from
Carly Offerdahl. From there, UCM went on to win 25-20.
Set three was all UCM, as they cruised to a 25-11 win. The Jens closed the set on a 14-3 run to pick up the sweep.
Brette Moore and Neigenfind each had four kills in the set.
The Jennies hit .212 for the match while holding the Chargers to .074 percent.
Game Two: Central Missouri 3, Harding 0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-17)
Central Missouri finished day two with a sweep of of Harding. Like in game one, three Jennies finished with double-digit kills.
Aubree Bell and
Kasey Hohlen each had 10 kills and Fisher again led all scorers with 12. The Jennies hit .275 for the match, their highest so far in Arkansas.
Harding led for much of the beginning of the set and as late as 20-19. Fisher though took over landing three straight kills to give UCM a 22-20 lead. She added another, as did
Molly Lawrence as UCM won the first frame 25-21.
It looked as though Harding would even up the match, leading set two 19-15, but the Jennies outscored the Bisons 10-3 down the stretch to steal the win. Fisher gave UCM the lead with an ace and
Ally Offerdahl landed two straight kills to end it.
The Jennies finally got an early lead in the third set and didn't give it away. Four straight kills, two from
Kasey Hohlen, one each from Bell and Fisher put UCM on top 16-9 and they were on their way to their second straight sweep, winning set three 25-17.
Central Missouri finishes up their time in Arkansas tomorrow morning with a 9 a.m. match against Christian Brothers.
