WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Sept. 15, 2017)-- Fourth-ranked Central Missouri Jennies Soccer proved to be too much for Lindenwood as the Jennies scored a season-high seven goals and posted their fifth straight shutout with a 7-0 win over the Lions Friday night at Jennies Field.
Four different Jennies scored in the win as they moved to 5-0 on the season. Freshmen
Makayla Toth and
Mallory Broady both scored two goals apiece with senior
Mikala Modiri also scoring two goals. Redshirt senior
Abby Rhodes added one goal which was the gamewinner for UCM. In net,
Ana Dilkes collected her fifth win of the season while grabbing two saves in 11 shots faced.
The Jennies got on the board in the 21st minute when Rhodes got the ball at midfield and went down the middle from 50 yards out and hit her shot to the left area of the net past the goalkeeper's reach. The goal is Rhodes' fifth of the season and her third gamewinner.
UCM was not finished yet in the first period as the team scored seven minutes later in the 28th minute. After taking three shots in a span of five seconds, the Jennies missed each opportunity until Toth knocked in a shot off a deflected save by Lindenwood's goalkeeper Mary McGilvray. Toth chipped her shot to the lower left corner of the net for her third goal of the year and a 2-0 lead for UCM.
About eight minutes later at the 35:56 mark, the Jennies added goal No. 3 when
Courtney Killian sent a high cross to Broady in the middle of the box where she nailed a head shot into the high middle area of the net. Killian's assist is her second of the year as the Jennies took a 3-0 into halftime.
In the first half, UCM outshot Lindenwood 18-5 overall and 12-2 in shots on goal.
The offensive attack for the Jennies continued in the second period and it did not take long for them to push the lead to 4-0. In the 54th minute Toth scored her second goal of the game and her fourth of the season when she got down the right side of the field and hit her shot to the left post and bounced it into the off the deflection.
UCM held a 4-0 lead over Lindenwood for sloid amount of time before striking again in the 76th minute. Broady added her second goal of the game on a pinpoint shot to the net from 20 yards out on the right side of the field giving UCM a 5-0 lead. Broady's two goals gives her four on the year.
With a commanding lead, the Jennies added two more goals for good measure with both coming from Modiri. She scored her first goal of the season in the 83rd minute when she hit stride down the left side of the field and scored from five yards out.
The seventh and final goal for the Jennies came just before the end of regulation at the 89:51 mark when Modiri went 55 yards down the middle of the field and hit her shot to the left side of the net from five yards out to notch her second goal of the season.
For the game, UCM outshot Lindenwood 27-11 overall and 19-2 in shots on goal. Defensively the Jennies posted their fifth straight shutout to start the season and are the only team left in the MIAA who has yet to allow a goal this season.
The Jennies will stay in-state this weekend as they travel to Northwest Missouri State Sunday, Sept. 17. Kickoff for Sunday's game against the Bearcats is set for 12:30 p.m.
