MARYVILLE, Mo. (April 1, 2017) - Central Missouri's seven game winning streak came to a halt Saturday afternoon against Northwest Missouri. The Bearcats swept a doubleheader in Maryville, 11-0, 4-2, putting the Jennies at 17-18 and 7-3 in the MIAA.
Game One: Northwest Missouri 11, Central Missouri 0 – 5 innings
The day started with the Bearcats scoring five runs in the opening inning. The Jennies offense couldn't get much going against Northwest starter Taylor Blackford, mustering two hits, both coming from
Carlie Rose.
Northwest added six runs in the fourth inning, getting back-to-back home runs as they ended the game after five innings.
Rose finished the game 2-2 for UCM. Bradley was the starter, going 3.1 innings giving up nine runs (seven earned) on seven hits with three walks and two strikeouts. She took the loss and falls to 7-9 on the year.
Blackford got the win for the Bearcats. She threw five innings giving up two hits with a walk and a strikeout. Chante Adams had three of the Bearcats nine hits, going 3-3 with a home run and five RBI.
Game Two: Northwest Missouri 4, Central Missouri 2
For the second straight game the Bearcats hit back-to-back home runs, this time they proved to be the difference in the game. After the Jennies scored once in the third and tied the game in the fourth on an
Aubrey Daniel RBI single, the Bearcats hit two round-trippers in the bottom of the inning to reclaim the lead and held on for the win.
Northwest took another early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning.
Lauryn Deer got into scoring position in the seventh, but was left stranded as winning pitcher Kaitlyn Weis got the final two outs.
Daniel finished the game 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Hailey Crabtree knocked two hits and scored a run.
Katie Giacone threw a complete game, tossing six innings giving up four runs, three earned while striking out five. The loss evens her record to 6-6.
Abiga Gilson and Jessica Rawie each went 1-for-3 with a home run. Weis came in to pitch in the fourth, getting the win tossing 3.1 innings giving up one hit and no runs while striking out two.
The Jennies road trip continues this Tuesday, They play a mid-week doubleheader against Pittsburg State starting at 3 p.m.
