Four Jennies Score In Double Figure in Rout of Missouri Southern

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Feb. 11, 2017) - Sydney Crockett led four Jennies in double-digit scoring as the No. 15 Jennies got back to their winning ways with a 74-47 victory over Missouri Southern Saturday afternoon at the Multi. The win moves them to 19-4 overall and 12-3 in the MIAA. With losses from Central Oklahoma and Emporia State, the Jennies are now in sole possession of second-place in the MIAA, one game behind Pittsburg State.

Crockett led all scorers with 18 points, connecting on 5-of-8 from beyond the arc. Paige Redmond shot 6-for-12 from the field and finished with 17 points and four assists. 

The Lions kept the game close early, with the Jens holding a three-point lead into the second quarter. From there, it was all UCM. In the second and third quarters, the Jens outscored the Lions 45-22, and never looked back.

Leading by only six in the second, the Jens used a 6-0 run to push the lead to double-digits, getting a a three from Kelsey Williams to put them up 12, 30-18. Central Missouri connected on four triples in the final 3:48 of the half, two from Kendra Gladbach and one each from Williams and Crockett, and took a 14-point advantage into the locker room.

The lead continued to grow in the third with the help of a 17-4 run. Early in the fourth quarter, a layup from Kayonna Lee gave the Jens their largest lead, 32, 70-38. Lee finished the game with her seventh double-double, 11 points and 10 rebounds. Megan Skaggs was the fourth Jennie in double-figures with 10 points. 

The Jennies shot 53.8% from the field (28-of-52) and the outcome was never in question after the opening frame. The Jens were on fire from three, shooting 12-for-26 (46.2%) for the game, and especially hot in the second and third quarters, where they were 9-for-16. 

Central Missouri's defense forced 24 Missouri Southern turnovers and turned that into 27 points, while scoring eight fast-break points. Eight different Jennies picked up a steal, as the Jennies finished with 12 for the game.

The Lions were led  by Desirea Buerge, who scored 11 points. Jenson Maydew scored eight and grabbed a team-high six rebounds.

UCM is in the midst of of a three-game homestand. They stay in Warrensburg to take on Lincoln Thursday, Feb. 16.
