WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Feb. 16, 2017) - The No. 16 Central Missouri Jennies Basketball team kept rolling Thursday night with a 71-60 win over Lincoln. The win is the Jennies 20th of the year, the seventh 20-win season under Coach
Dave Slifer. UCM also moves to 13-3 in the MIAA.
The Jennies never trailed in the game and after neither team scored for the first 2:36, UCM exploded for 15 straight points, all three-pointers over the next 2:09.
Sydney Crockett and
Paige Redmond each hit two triples during the stretch. Central Missouri finished the game connecting on nine of a season-high 33 three-point attempts.
The Jens kept on the accelerator in the first, outscoring the Blue Tigers 23-6 in the opening frame.
With just under eight minutes remaining in the half, a free throw from
Kayonna Lee gave UCM a 20-point edge, 29-9. The Jens led by 23 at intermission, 41-18 when Redmond scored a layup with four seconds to play in the half.
The second half was all but academic, and a 10-0 Lincoln run to close the game made the score closer than the game was.Â
Megan Skaggs led the Jennies scoring 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting. She also pulled down a career-high seven rebounds. The Jennies shot 38.5% from the floor, going 25-65. Crockett and Redmond were also in double-figures. Crockett scored 12 while Redmond added 11. Off the bench,
Sydney Skaggs scored seven points and was 3-for-3 from the floor.Â
Kelsey Williams, playing against her former team, scored six points and dished out a game-high five assists. Her three-pointer with 2:35 left in the third gave UCM their largest lead, 53-26.Â
The Jennies dominated the glass, coming down with a season-best 48 rebounds to Lincoln's 36. They also scored 14 second-chance points to the Blue Tigers' five.Â
Khadijah Ellison led all scorers with 20 points. She was 9-for-17 from the field and also came down with five boards. Hunter Yoakum added 17 for the Blue Tigers. Lincoln out-shot the Jens, schooting 39.7% from the floor, but were just 3-for-14 from three.
Central Missouri wraps up their three game home stand Saturday with a rematch against Lindenwood. The Jens defeated the Lions 79-59 in St. Charles back in January. Tip off is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at the Multi.
