WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Nov. 3, 2017) - Central Missouri Jennies Volleyball got a modicum of revenge against Washburn, defeating the Ichabods 3-1 Friday night in Warrensburg. The Ichabods had previously defeated the Jennies 3-2, back in September. The win snaps a brief two-game losing streak for UCM and moves them to 21-7 on the season and 11-4 in the MIAA.
How it Happened
• The Jennies lost the opening set but came back to win three straight. UCM landed eight more kills, 57-49, and hit .225 to the Ichabods .168. Washburn committed 25 attack errors.
• Washburn entered with the best blocking numbers in the MIAA, but it was the Jennies who won the battle at the net, outblocking the Ichabods 11-8.
• One game after committing 12 service errors, the Jennies brought that number down to five in four sets. They also landed five aces to the Ichabods three.
• The Jennies led for the early portion of the opening frame after scoring the first three points. Washburn kept it close and took an 8-7 lead on a block from Carley Swan and Makayla Maxwell. Though the Jennies retied it on a couple of occasions, the Ichabods never lost the lead. A kill from Maxwell pushed the lead to six, 19-13, and WU went on to win by five, 25-20.Â
• Set two was the only one of the four with multiple lead changes - two. Washburn led early on as they looked to take a 2-0 lead in the match. The Ichabod lead was as large as three, 10-7, when UCM started to comeback. A 4-1 UCM run tied the set at 11-all, and a kill from
Hannah VanBuskirk gave the Jennies the lead for good at 14-13. A pair of UCM errors brought the lead back to two, 23-21, and forced a timeout, but kills from
Aubree Bell and
Audrey Fisher ended the set.Â
• Back-to-back kills from VanBuskirk gave the Jennies a 4-1 lead and they never looked back in set three. UCM led by as much as eight in the set, and won by that many scoring the final four points, getting to WU errors and a kill and service ace from Bell.Â
• The fourth set was all about the killer B's - Bell and blocks. Bell landed nine kills in the set and UCM blocked five Washburn attacks, led by Fisher's four. Washburn actually jumped out in front , 5-2, looking to send the match to a fifth set. But UCM went on a 6-1 run to force a timeout and never trailed again. The Jennies got four blocks in a span of 13 UCM points. Washburn was still hanging around at 13-12, but a block from Fisher and Lawrence capped a 5-1 UCM run and forced another Washburn timeout. The Ichabods never got closer than four the rest of the way and the night fittingly ended on a kill from Bell, her 14th of the match.
